Wombat Fork Caution

I had a stiction problem upon returning from HD14 on the front forks of my Wombat. I had the front wheel off of the bike for transport, re-installed it once I got home.........a couple of days later I go for a ride and notice something odd with the front forks. The forks would only compress a couple...

Re: Road Toad Regulator on Wombat

I would like to replace the current limiter on my Wombat 94A with a Road Toad regulator. I've seen rlkarren's schematic and it is straightforward. The Wombat current limiter mounts on the right side of the battery box below the turn signal flasher. Where is the regulator mounted on a Road Toad? Bas...

Re: triple tree bearings

I would install them just because the Timkin style is much easier to install. How often do you disassemble and reassemble your steering head? Never........but when I did a total rebuild on my Wombat, this had to be one of the most time consuming finicky jobs on the whole process. Maybe what I shoul...

Re: Points

That torque sounds about right......as far as I remember, and that is not a very large nut/thread. It's the taper of the crank and the key that really help retain the flywheel. Just think how much force it can take with the proper puller to remove the flywheel.

Hope that helps.

Re: Trans Oil Change.

Does this engine have a dipstick?
On my KTM 520, I use a vaccum pump to get most of the oil out by inserting a tube into the dipstick hole. I am able to get about 90% of the oil out this way..........which just might work on the Hodakas??

Funny how there is nothing obvious that caused the crash.

Thanks for posting!

Re: HD 2014 Report Anybody?

I had a great time! I had problems with my Wombat on Wednesday and did not think I would get any more riding in, but clear heads from Dave, Norman and myself on Thursday morning found the culprit.......a disintegrating float was clogging my jets.......we were lucky and found a replacement float and ...

Re: How to Load a Wombat

The frame has about 4" of clearance still so I can roll it around easy. It won't go into the truck with the ramp I have without finding a hill to back the truck up to..........that's how I got it into the box. The wheel is just a cart wheel........does not match the axle, so I won't be riding i...

How to Load a Wombat

I did not want to bring my trailer to Hodaka Days, so I had to figure out a way to put my Wombat inside my truck. This is what I came up with.......it's a bit of a hassle, but the time it takes to remove the front wheel will be saved in fuel and time hauling my trailer. http://i298.photobucket.com/a...

RTW Wombat

Well gang I have finally finished my 1972 Hodaka Wombat for my RTW adventure. Total rebuild was done on the bike and Kriega luggage fitted for a minimalist tour. What better way to see the world than on a small bike that is only capable of 50mph! Enjoy........ http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm25...

Re: Ace 100 clutch arm removal

Thanks Ed, I wonder why they didn't use a hex head that you could grab on to? Can the pin be reused? Don With old bikes I find it best not to ask "why" they did the things they did. They were probably using the best engineering that was available at that time . I usually just laugh and be...

Re: My 1972 Wombat

Did that Wombat come out of an apartment storage unit a few years back? I seem to remember a story of a disassembled Wombat that came from an apartment building, in Richmond, I think, and the PO gave it away. Your close........it was an apartment storage in North Vancouver.......and the PO gave it ...
