Re: Bad landing?

Hmm...I think see spoke detail and those wrists and arms are straight and I don't see smoke blasting out the chamber. These are problems. The correct move here is a hearty yank on the bars with the throttle pinned. Unless he is at the crest of an insanely steep downhill,(which he just might be based...

Re: Starting the Wombat Combat!

Hey Victor, I just got home from work and didn't get time to get to the shop today, but I am off tomorrow afternoon and can get to it then. I am a bit concerned that my jetting specs will lead to frustration for you. I am running a stock CW air box (for the look) but it has been modified for more ai...

Re: 01 DS

Agreed. I'm thinking back-up race bike and olddogs has excellent ideas. And most importantly, nothing that would disallow the bike to be returned to stock trim (other than adding a couple inches to the swing arm). Thanks guys!

Re: Starting the Wombat Combat!

I will check tomorrow, Victor. The last time I raced it was at a fall HS. Low 50's and dry. I know its jetted rich now. Do you need MJ or the whole works?

Re: 01 DS

That's enough for me, Dale. Survivor resto it is. My understanding is that the 01 DS and the RT have essentially he same drive train and THAT bike rips! Sounds like a fun bike to me. Maybe as is, it would make a good back up to my RS for 100cc reed action. Did you make any suspension upgrades or cha...

Re: Help with VM20 carb on ace100

Holy Craaaap. That never occurred to me. I've had plenty of leaky petcocks, the proceeds of which always ended up in a shop rag on the floor. Locked and loaded.

Re: Help with VM20 carb on ace100

Make sure your floats actually float. Shake them and listen for fuel sloshing around or hold them under fuel and look for bubbles. Make sure the float arms are parallel to the gasket surface with float needle in place and the carb body held upside down so that the float arms are resting on the needl...

Re: 01 DS

Thanks olddogs. That was exactly the info I was hoping for. I'm pretty familiar with all the toaster tank Hodies. Not so much with the painted tank models. I need to dig into the bike a bit and see what's there. I bought the bike from the original owner who got it as a birthday gift from her father ...

01 DS

Happy Memorial Day everyone and a special "thank you" to all who have served. I heard of an "orange" Hodaka motorcycle for sale. SR? SC? Nope. 01 Dirt squirt. Who cares? I just had to have it. I was originally thinking of modding a toaster tank DS into a sleeper. Now with this ne...

Re: 1971 hodaka wombat 125

You're finding out one of the cool features that is engineered into Hodaka motorcycles. There is a significant parts application overlap between models and years. You'd be amazed at the swapping that has taken place, over the years, of every Hodaka I've acquired since being reexposed to Hodakavirus ...

Re: 1971 hodaka wombat 125

The kick crank issue may be as simple as replacing the return spring which takes 5 minutes and parts are very inexpensive. I've seen several examples of main switches that have been modified so that the lock can be turned with a small flat blade screw driver. If the switch still works, replacement i...

Question for Gary

Hi Gary, First, I love the current iteration of the forum. Much easier to read. Second, and here I go demonstrating my computer naivety, how difficult would it be to make the subjects in the Resonator index direct links to the actual article? More a "clickable" table of contents for the en...

Re: 1971 hodaka wombat 125

With 1453 on the clock and the general appearance of the bike, I can't imagine that the internal components are anything but pristine. The bike tells a story. The visible damage to the tank and pipe describe a guy in the 70's who decides he wants to try motorcycling. Unfortunately, he wadded it up t...

Re: 1971 hodaka wombat 125

Yep, that's a Model 94 Wombat. They did not need any accessory lighting kit as they were delivered street-legal. They are great bikes and the one you're considering looks complete and in great shape for a nearly 50 year old bike. Sweet!!

Re: 1971 hodaka wombat 125

Wombat was introduced in 1972. It is a terrific, true dual-purpose/enduro scooter. They really got it right. Most were stripped down and raced. Having a complete bike puts you ahead of the game. Before pulling the trigger, I would suggest two things in rapid sequence. Post as many pictures to this f...

Re: Help identifying pistons

If that piston was machined at the factory for reeds, I'd say standard bore piston for a painted tank Super Rat. I recall the other painted tank 100s (Road Toad and Dirt Squirt) had the tamer two-ring set-up. I hope to learn something when someone who really knows lays it down.

Re: Help identifying pistons

I'll give it a go. Single Dykes ring configuration suggests stock racing piston for a toaster tank Super Rat.

Volume 2, Nr 26. There is a really nice Resonator subject index of back issues in the "Members Only" section of the club website. Very well done and helpful.
