Re: Oxidation
A single-edge razor blade holder a la paint scraper works great. You'll be amazed at the pretty plastic hiding under there. Go slowly and just down to the good stuff. I did that to my Toad front fender, and after that, I just rubbed it down with WD-40 (why not?) and mounted it. Looks great on a pati...

Re: intake manifold
The reed manifold would have more volume, length, and contour than the original flange-mount manifold. That would decrease the carburetor signal. As to how much and the resulting performance impact, I'll be interested in hearing from the pros.

Re: a little 01 DS clutch advice pretty please
Thanks fellas. Interesting. The springs in the clutch cleaned up nicely and, like the rest of the bike had about 4 hours run time on them. Back in they went. I guess what was confusing is that in the Hodaka Parts website library in the Specifications by Model "book", the 01 DS specs under ...

a little 01 DS clutch advice pretty please
Just finished blueprinting an essentially brand new 01 DS clutch. I have a quick question. On disassembly, there were single springs in each well on the hub and gear. The specs page on HPI describes inner and outer springs like many Hodie clutches have. This is my first 01. I seem to recall a switch...

They are essentially the same motor. Great parts availability.

Re: 76 thunderdog seized engine
The best move is to dismantle the motor down to the nuts and bolts, give everything a good cleaning and derusting, and assess. You might be surprised.

Re: Need a left Wombat case
There's a sexy solution too. I can't remember the name of the stuff, but it is an inert chemical that you add to the oil that is phosphorescent under black light. You can get it at most any auto parts store. Add it to the oil and examine the bike in a darkened room with a hand-held black light (a fe...

Yikes Bob. Looks like I got off relatively easy. I'm a firm believer in the notion "that which does not kill us makes us stronger". Then again, considering the way I've lived my life, I should be the second coming of Charles Atlas. Hmm...

Re: Hodaka porn
Thanks fellas. Yes, suddenly having no meaningful steering at highway speed is a sickening feeling. All's well that ends well. Albert, I've driven past that Soo Line Trail a million times. Is there some good riding to be had there? It would be fun to arrange a meet and some trail riding there. Our p...

Re: Hodaka porn
For sure, Bob. I feel like a kid on Christmas Day with this bike. My camera is stuck in Moose Lake, MN - along with my truck, trailer, two race bikes, clothes, chain saw, etc. etc. The good news - 4th out of 14 in 50+ open hare scramble. The bad - steering column on my truck broke at highway speed. ...

Interestingly, I just inspected the top end on my RT. The manual lists 0.006 - 0.014 end gap for both rings.

Wowiee! I just pulled the clutch. First thing - no kidding - darn near 3mm thick 6-shim stack. Good sign! Clutch basket had only a few very superficial grooves. Once I got the plates unstuck, they were all nearly brand new. Clutch screws had never been turned since the day they left the factory. Fel...

Re: Magura 314 throttle cable
As opposed to the Hodaka-type throttle where the cable wraps vertically around the axis of the bar, the 314 takes the cable up around an horizontal spool. The Duo has a two spools of different diameters rotating as a unit about the same axis. The large diameter spool takes the slide from closed to W...

Re: 125 Wombat motors....
Thanks for adding the gritty to the nitty, Captain. Very interesting bit of history. There was a bit on the Bullfrog trials bike, I think in the "Specials' chapter in the Hodaka Book, but not in this cool a degree of detail. Maybe for the next addition?

Grungy oil is great, but when I need top-notch olfactory stim, I go for 106 octane race gas and racing castor. Smells like victory.

Yeah - an old tooth brush, full-strength Simple Green, water, and a year of your life. It will never look brand new, but they do clean up and will look nice on a rider.

Re: Magura 314 throttle cable
I have a Magura 314 Duo throttle on my TM-125 and needed a new cable. I have a mountain of old cables and happened to find one that worked perfectly although it is a little light for competition work. There was nothing special about it at all. The Hodaka cable should work and it will take about five...

Thanks Dale. Here's a little update on the new kid on the block. This bike is LIKE NEW!! They sold Hodakas out of the showroom and so he bought this DS for ...
