Re: Carbs...carbs....carbs...
Is the slide on the left of the picture a correct valve for that carburetor in general?

And it is also a good place to include in the detailed examination and cleaning of carburetors.

99.99% of the time this means your kick roller retainer is sacked out. There are bulletproof replacements available at a pretty good price.

Smart. I will confess to a few dings. I have a severely oxidized fender I want to try the heat gun finish on. I'll give it a try. Thanks Dale.

Re: Sometimes ya just gotta know...
Cool. Brinneling (Named for its inventor) is a method of determining a solid material's hardness. By driving a small metal ball of known hardness at a set force into the test material, the relative hardness of the test material can be determined by measuring the depth and diameter of the resultant i...

Good call. All my bikes are that way. No trailer queens in the lot. Like you, I work toward ideal mechanical function. Depending on the overall shape of the bike, you may need to strip and repaint the frame and swinging arm to assess the health of the metal and welds.

Re: Sometimes ya just gotta know...
Excellent Captain. I was up to speed with your first paragraph explaining of force bearing on the steering head associated with different impact vectors. The bearing ball explanation really makes sense now. I also wondered if the larger balls (I could never have this conversation in front of my daug...

Perfect! You might want to look at the clutch blueprinting method while you have it off the bike. I've blueprinted all my clutches and it really takes a good clutch system to an awesome clutch system.

01 forks
One dust wiper is badly cracked, and the other is not far behind. Seals and o-rings are probably in similar shape. Interestingly, the forks work perfectly and have as good damping as my recently rebuild (by Hodaka Dave) RT forks. I have never worked on painted tank model forks other than some relati...

Sometimes ya just gotta know...
Why are the bearing balls in the lower race larger than the upper bearing balls? I have my theory to share in the form of another question. In a heavy front impact (ie casing a jump, duffing a set of whoop-de-dos), is the impact distributed over the upper and lower races similarly in terms of vector...

Agreed, Captain. I'm a firm believer in the old saw "one can never have too much clutch discussion". That was one of my grand mother's favorites. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Welp, if anyone wants a great suggestion for combining frustration and time wasting, try this: Remove, clean, rebuild, adjust, and confirm (in)correct parts on your Road Toad carburetor about a million times. Then, while reassembling the bike for the millionth time, take a look at the supersexy, bra...

Re: Clutch confusion on model 92B+
Sorry Captain and Michigan. I derailed myself while taking a poke at the last part of Michigan's post looking to optimize clutch function. The index problem is too much free play. Let me try this again: Too much free play? Add shims. Too little? remove shims. Dial function with cable adjustment. Aah...

Also, I should have mentioned, if you use a single-edge razor blade, keep the cutting edge close to perpendicular to the surface you are working on as opposed to using it like a chisel to avoid accidentally gouging into healthy plastic. You'll be surprised at how fast that powdery, oxidized plastic ...

Re: Clutch confusion on model 92B+
Just for reference, my recently acquired and nearly brand spanking new 01 Dirt Squirt has about a 3 mm shim stack for proper free play on the clutch actuating arm. Intuition suggests as the plates wear, shims must be added to make up for the diminishing disk thickness. Wrong! Keep in mind the fixed ...
