Re: Looking for a Rat Tank...

I have four tanks that I treated with Caswell 2-part epoxy tank sealer and it has held up perfectly for, in one case, over six years and three are on race bikes to boot. The key is to follow the directions with as much obsessive/compulsive unflinching precise perfection you can muster. Details, deta...

Also, you'd have to lay on the ground and look up to see the repair. I think you've knocked this one out of the park, Victor.

Re: Looking for a Rat Tank...

Hi Victor. Could you take an over-head, straight down picture of the tank? I'm not sure that isn't an Ace tank - a direct swap. If it is indeed a Super Rat tank, unless you're extremely lucky or have a grand and a couple years to wait, you won't do better that that one. Quality SR toaster tanks are ...

Re: stuck in gear

Groovie. Since you will break the cases apart anyway, you can inspect the gears and go from there. Parts are available if necessary, but I doubt there is a broken gear - you'd know it. The gearing issue is more likely a sacked out or maladjusted shift control rod and associated parts or possibly a w...

Re: stuck in gear

Not so much a failure but an anticipated event on a bike that sat for lord knows how many years and is now running. You have a failed left crank seal at the very least. The good news - you can change the left crank seal without splitting the cases. Now the bad - if you take that approach, the motor ...

Re: Gary Baileys book

Interesting JPark. I never thought of "footedness" before. How the heck are you, Paul? :D When I think about throwing the bike into a fast left turn, the right leg is responsible for weighting the outside peg so that right leg dominance follows. Hmm...then why when I ride a slalom ski, my ...

Re: 32mm Ceriani Front End

That is an impossible fitment without destroying the entire geometry, balance, AND value of the bike so I'd give up on the idea. They are junk anyway. Don't toss 'em, though. I get 10 cents apiece for them at my metal scrapper so just send them to me and I will see to it that they are properly 'recy...

Re: Gary Baileys book

Check this out Captain. I think I've figured it out. When I was a kid, my bike had coaster brakes which were activated by pedaling backward. This was, as I recall, a right leg operation so laying it down to the left allowed posting with the left leg as I brought it around. Same thing with a dirt bik...

Re: Gary Baileys book

Excellent Pop  I'm not sure Victor. I've been thinking that in counter steering, you end up with the throttle twist grip in your hand like a screw driver. As a righty, that is more comfortable for me. Thinking...

Re: Gary Baileys book

Hey, this is a good time to throw this into the mix. Why is it that I can throw a dirt bike into a hard left corner with (w)reckless abandon and it feels just awesome - position on the bike, countersteering - it feels like being one with the bike. Not so of righty-tightys. I practice on RH turns, an...

Re: New here and project dirt squirt

Toaster tank DS is key to the most fun you can have on two wheels. From cruising along the trails to an impromptu scramble, I think they are the best pure, all-round dirt bike ever made. I will look forward to the update.

Re: Super Rat tires

I run the Cheng Shin tires on my 93B Super Rat. They have held up extremely well over 20 or so motos and a few dozen hours of fun riding/trailing. Great tires and no fitment issues with the chain guard in place.

I will concur with real world proof in the form of a podium finish a couple weeks ago - 50+ open (hare scrambles) behind a KTM300SX-F and a YZ450F on a reeded CW. I got murdered on the few speed sections and uphills, but in the tight woods sections comprising the majority of the course. I made it al...

Re: Looking for Spark Arrestor for 95

Unless you are dedicated to running the pipe stock, consider a silencer upgrade. I have cut off and replaced the flame thrower tips on both of my race-prepped Combat Wombats with FMF Turbine Core II silencers. Lighter, mellower exhaust note, and maybe a slight performance boost are the real advantag...

Just over an inch and I'm 200# with full gear. I like a tighter front end for racing here. The dirt is very loamy and forgiving. Sometimes it feels like riding on marshmallows.

Re: 30mm Front Forks

If the forks are properly assembled, the 30wt fork oil should give a pretty firm ride so that 1-2" of squishiness doesn't seem right. Were the springs in good shape? Is the spring retaining cap on top of the spring? That's the point where a preload bushing can be installed.

Re: Plastic Rear Fender

To fit a PP (or any other aftermarket fender) you have to notch the front/left corner of the fender to get it to fit.
