Re: 03 patina build

I've seen that in a few clutches I've rebuilt, Pop. In those instances, the extra steels were serving as shims to squeek a bit more service out of worn discs.

Good call. Really nothing more rewarding than simply hopping on and going for a ride around the neighborhood unencumbered with thoughts of the next tweek.

Re: Case Reed 125 Hodaka Project

The metal work you did would be the big ticket item here. My welding skills are limited to highly sophisticated applications such as patching pipes and - well - thats about it. I couldn't even begin fabricating a seat like that. If there was a way to get that seat pan here, the little mom and pop up...

Re: Question on forum organization

I'm thinking that it would be cool to have a section for bench racing, performance reports, general BS-ing, story telling, lying, and such. Otherwise, I'm totally cool with the current format.

Re: Case Reed 125 Hodaka Project

Ooh, now I'm really jealous. Do you think you could crank out three more of those pans for my race Hodies? The stock Hodaka seat is remarkably comfortable for sure. The problem is that I rarely actually sit on it and it is a bit wide. The main plus is it make for a nice ride back to the pits. Man, w...

Re: Mission impossible

Hi Victor. They are on day one of a 7-day soak. Rust fusion is the current working theory.

Re: Mission impossible

Hi Clarence. Clutch is off. In fact the cases are stripped bare. I'm thinking Dale is likely correct in that the internals have fused with rust. There was a clear waterline mark about 1/2 way the cases once I pulled the covers indicating the bike spent a significant stretch of time sitting in flood ...

Re: Mission impossible

Hey, that sounds feasible AND safe for the case edges. I'll give it a whirl. Better application of the impact force in a spreading fashion compared to whanging away with a dead blow hammer til I'm blue in the face. Finesse it is. I'll report.

Re: Mission impossible

Man Clarence. I'm currently operating on your motor's Iowa cousin. I'm trying to build up a spare piston port SR motor and have been working on splitting the cases now for two weeks. I'm going top and bottom with two homegrown case splitting tools which get a turn a day each, heat, acetone/tranny fl...

Wow! Nice. I'd love to know how you calculated the dimensions of the wedges so that the pipe bend so perfectly followed the curvature of the frame cradle. Great work!

Re: Different Ace 100 cases...

Captain, I couldn't imagine an assembly line product requiring a VIN number (in this case both frame and motor numbers) to operate in any other way. Clarence, Chin LEE (not Young) was Bruce Lee's cousin. No wait - that's Ching Lee, er...no...Ching Lee was the cook on Bonanza. Oh, what the hell - the...

Wow, maybe I shouldn't have went with that last overbore. Yep, that should be 56mm. Now I will be sucking my thumb over in the naughty chair for 47 minutes.

The stock bore is 56mm. Stroke is the same as all 90, 100, 125cc models - 50mm.

Re: Looking for a Rat Tank...

Right on, Dale. This spring, I got out of shape on a berm turn and got stuffed hard enough to put a 6cm long by 2-3mm deep crease on my Super Rat toaster tank (yes, I know how stupid it is to race with the toaster on, but it is sooooooo freakin cooooooooool). The Caswell lining just laughed it off. ...
