Re: Holy swing arm BatMan!

Cool idea. I never thought of that. That would eliminate the possibility of frame damage from someone getting impatient with the hammer. Maybe a hot tip for The Res?

Re: Super Combat cylinder/piston

Sorry for the questions, but it would be really cool to know if there are any other makes where the cylinders could be machined to fit. I've seen some people pull off some magical stuff. That would be good general Hodaka knowledge for someone trying to keep a bike in service with no concern for OEM ...

Re: Super Combat cylinder/piston

That brings up another question, which I'm sure has been answered a zillion times before. Are SC and 03 Wombat pistons the same? If not, are they interchangeable with or without mods? The basic answer to the above question is that it has to be a 125 cc piston with the skirt milled for reed induction...

Re: Holy swing arm BatMan!

And remember - the heat -> cool -> tap sequence is a cycle you repeat over and over again with insane amounts of patience - like watching paint dry level patience. After you get it moving, tapping it back and forth occasionally as you progress might get it moving faster. I learnt that on here somewh...

Re: Holy swing arm BatMan!

Hacksaw off the mushroomed end of the bolt. It sounds wrecked anyway. That might improve your penetrating oil ingress into the bolt channel. Then, with the patience of Job, heat the bolt channel in the swing arm gently (heat gun or propane torch), allow to cool, and tap, again gently, on the sawn en...

Just super glue the pieces together or whatever and send it to me. I'll dress it for you with my Dremel.

3/8" drill. Put the holes wherever you'd like. That's how mine is held together. I like Dan's suggestion better.

Re: Center Case Gasket - cement or not

I don't use them myself since I was hipped to Indian Head back in high school (70's), but I do know a lot of builders that use one of the branded "Bond" sealants (Yama-, Honda-) with great results. I like the thinner stuff better. You apply it, with the applicator swab that comes with the ...

I like Indian Head gasket shellac. Easy to apply, never gloppy, and plenty of working time. Cool.

Nice Ride. I've always wanted one of those. Utterly unavailable - materially or financially. Based on a very limited experience, in my opinion, what you have there is the best enduro bike in the entire line. Reed induction, oil injection, primary kick starting, light weight, agile frame and an absol...

Re: Ace 100 cross country bike

Groovie. You'll have a great dirt bike. If you were going to 21", you'd need to up-size the rear wheel accordingly or your steering geometry would be off and handling would suffer. Also, keep in mind the benefit I described was in the context of northern Minnesota riding. Deer trails, fire road...

Re: Difficulty Starting Rat

Hey Victor, I'm not sure if you performed the solder job on the stator but if you did, here's a good tip I learned to prevent burning the crap out of the vinyl insulation. You don't need to strip/tin any more than 3-4mm insulation. If you are soldering multiple wires to the contact, tin them togethe...

Re: Difficulty Starting Rat

You might be right Victor. Consider removing the plug, lift the rear off the deck, slip the transmission in a low gear and see if you can move the engine by turning the rear tire. See now well the tire turns in neutral while you're at it. It might be the clutch dragging in the engine down if it does...

Re: Am I the dipstick because I can't read mine?

I'm sticking with the pants. The potential for voluntary, albeit inconsequential grit transfer would drive me bananas - but I'm unerringly finicky about such things. I can see how well that would work though. The difference between the oiled and unoiled chalk would be unmistakable.

Re: Difficulty Starting Rat

I would expect if its a Hodaka Dave top end, it is perfect. That's based on the fact that he's 12 for 12 for me including the best top end I've had ever. It sounds like something is putting a drag on the system. He made my epic SR top end a wee bit snug, but he knew I was going to race it. It didn't...

Looks good Victor. If you use a satin clear coat, I think you nailed it. The original example I used for reference had a semi-gloss/satin appearance to it.

Re: Combat Wombat Air Box Green....

Yep - that's where I got it. I've only seen one NOS, wrapped up CW air box cover, briefly, so that memory is my source. Both of mine were pretty weathered and rusty so they appear much lighter. If you have a good example, you might want to compare it to the Testors on a piece of scrap before you com...

Man, I wish I could do something like that, Victor. Everything I know about welding I learned in high school shop class and a few bits on the fly - which, by the way explains how my welding goes now 40+ years later.
