Re: I've reluctantly entered the 21st century.

Dan, does that require transferring the image to the computer first or can I post images and text directly from the phone?

Re: I've reluctantly entered the 21st century.

I like the thought of the disassembly/assembly idea. Thanks Albert. I was wondering if anyone knows how to post pictures directly to the forum.

I've reluctantly entered the 21st century.

Due to forces beyond my control, my employer has done away with the tiny, discreet pager I've used for 25 years (and which has been clipped to the inside of my motocross pants, along with my thin as a rail flip phone, on more races and rides than I can imagine) in lieu of a smart phone. It seems lik...

I wouldn't toss the roached cases. Some a$$-kicking aluminum fabber with a serious sand-casting jones might like to put them back into circulation. They ain't makin' any more.

Re: More 250ED questions

Ha! As it left the factory, piston-port induction and all, I love the set-up. It has a nice, wide power band that is easy to keep on the pipe in all but the tightest woods course. It struggles to keep pace on WOT and MX sections out of the turns. Reeds would be beneficial here if that's your thing. ...

Re: Combat project

A whole bunch of pinholes, commonly seen along the tunnel, if fixable. I've done several myself. Caswell 2-part epoxy tank sealer is excellent. Follow all the instructions for prep, glassing the tunnel, etc. with extreme (as in waaaay) precision and you can save that tank. Now if the tank is rusted ...

Re: Electronic Ignitions

Groovie. Mine were all installed by Hodaka Dave - perfectly. That fact is 100% of the reason they've worked perfectly, 100% of the reason I wanted them installed by a pro and 100% of the reason I didn't try to do it myself. You may have the juice to install it yourself. One additional advantage is t...

Re: Electronic Ignitions

I can lend eager support for the PVL ignition. I have a Super Rat, Two Combat Wombats and a Suzuki TM125 that all have PVL ignitions with a combined 80 hours of hard racing and many times that in practice and trail riding. The have performed flawlessly and I have not touched them once. Excellent upg...

Re: New buyer advice? Good deal?

There is no official workshop manual for any model after 1973 with the Wombat/Combat Wombat manual. That said, the Wombat/Combat Wombat Official Workshop Manual has much valuable information which similarly applies to the Dirt Squirt. A good investment.

A lot of the missing bits are readily available and, unless you are a stickler for authenticity on some of the hard to find stuff like blinkers, cheap.

Re: New buyer advice? Good deal?

With nothing to go on but the pictures and your description, I'd say worth it. A nice, complete Road Toad which looks like it was never beat is a great score. The coffin tank is a bonus to some. I'm guessing that is a Road Toad frame with a nice blue paint job, but check the head badge. If it says s...

Hey man, if wheelin' and dealin' ain't your thing, the 125 would give you more oomph in sand. It would be prone to looping out, but there is absolutely no doubt the bone stock Ace frame is born, bred, and perfected as a trail bike platform - period.

If you can find them, alloy wheels are a sweet way to lighten the bike, and with a drive train bonus.

Re: Noob question: 125 motor in a 100B+ frame?

If you have a handle on an Ace frame and know (or are) a good welder, extending the swinging arm a couple inches will cool out the wheelieishness. Hodaka Dave performs this operation perfectly, and if you are going to race the bike, he can also reinforce them. Craftsman level work by a real pro.

Standard jetting otherwise, Victor. The only exception is occasionally raising the needle one notch. This is race bike tuning for high revs all the time. It would be totally wrong for light trailing.

Re: Need help identifying kick pedal

Good call. That is a part you just don't want to sack out. I have a couple that don't seem to seat down all the way either. I suppose there are subtle kick crank differences between some models that don't arise to the level of incompatibility with others.

Re: Need help identifying kick pedal

Yes, a vent tube is required for the exact reason you described. There should be a mounting bung on one corner at the top. Just run the tube straight to the ground through the gap in front of the swinging arm. Yep, that's a "whatever's laying around" looking replacement. I'm not suite sure...
