Re: shifting Adjustment

It occurs to me that (forgive me if this has been mentioned already) I've had binding of the control shaft in first gear due to one of two possible causes. 1: Using one of those ball receiver kits that has bushings on the outside of the springs, (like webco), and the bushing is sticking in the bore ...

Re: shifting Adjustment

Flyingdg: You have a known issue which I have experienced first hand. There is excessive slop in the index gear to shift shaft fitment. Usually this requires replacement of the indexing gear and the shifter shaft. A temporary fix can be obtained by stretching an o ring over the spool, so the o ring ...

Re: shifting Adjustment

The Hodaka manuals have all this info in them I would imagine, however, what works for me is basically the following. Ride the bike and try to determine if you are missing shifts or not. If you are, try to ascertain whether or not the missed shifts occur while upshifting, or downshifting, and which ...

Re: Trials Bike Question

Removed tire pump and horn brackets, cut steering stop to about 22 mm wide. Create footpeg mounts in the right spot. Cut off loopy bracket so air cleaner for ace 100 would fit. Adapt sexy gas tank so it mounts on there right. That's all.

Re: Trials Bike Question

You can never have too many Hodaka trials bikes! They are all so unique! Truly a great way to express your creativity. This is what I've got so far on the Ace 90.

Re: Trials Bike Question

Aw, shucks Bob. :) I hope so, but I wouldn't bet too much on it. Ed: Glad to see you made it home safe from Hawaii! I bet that was just awesome! You're probably all tan like George Hamilton now. The Ace 90 is gonna' be very low tech, using as much original type parts as I can manage. I have to admit...

Re: Trials Bike Question

I will be making a custom glass pack muffler from the Greenish Hodaka tool can, with the exit made from a piece of handlebar, behind the left rear shock.

Re: Trials Bike Question

Here's a glimpse of my latest project. It's an Ace 90 trials special with almost zero frame mods. It will be an attempt to replicate the bike I rode as a youngster in 1972. It was originally put together by my uncle, Whitey "Hacksaw" Hartman. I hope to have it running in time for Hodaka da...

Re: Jetting on Super Combat

Laurie: It warms my heart that you like Corb Lund. He is our favorite singer bar none! The live shows are such a kick in the butt! I gave Paul a CD at Harry's funeral. I wonder if he ever had time to listen to it. I think Hurtin' Albertan is my favorite song. :) Reminds me of when I used to ride bar...

My first time posting a photo. This is the so called 1968 Ace 90. Note the stock Ace 90 swingarm in the photo.

Re: Jetting on Super Combat

Laurie: My ported reed valved Combat Wombat with YZ 125 pipe and 34 mm mikuni carb, is running very well here with a 50 pilot and a 330 main jet. I think the only thing that makes anyone an expert is they have tried lots of stuff and made a few mistakes along the way. I say go leaner on the main jet...

Re: Ace 90/100 frames and fenders

I will have to ghet the frame down from the rafters and write it down. I am pretty sure it is on the left shock plate area. Will get back to you, with photo proof.

Re: Ace 90/100 frames and fenders

I'm sure allot of experts on here might know more about this subject, but I thought I might throw another monkey wrench into this discussion, just for the fun of it. I recently came into posession of what I was told was a 1968 Ace 90 frame and swing arm. I was also told that the very last Ace 9os we...

Re: Wombat Airboot

Chris, I'm going to go out on a limb here, since no one else has responded yet. I think a Combat Wombat air boot, heated and stretched might work. The 28 mm does not have a very big bell compared to the 32, but the regular wombat one is for sure too small. If the bike is going to have a reed valve o...

Re: Hole to nowhere

The hole is there to trap sealer and prevent air leak at this location. When it's flat right there the sealant is squished out of the area, and over time a leak develops. These voids are common in any case to case contacts that use liquid sealants.
