Re: Washougal VMX

Just thought I'd pass along a few photos from the wonderful Northwest Challenge VMX at Washougal this past weekend. Loved it! Finished 3rd in the combined race on the National track against 250s and open bikes. The 125 Wolverine even passed a 250 Elsinore at the top of horsepower hill!

Re: Cluttch issues

I suppose it should be said that we are not using any of those old all fiber plates, only the new type friction discs from Paul at Strictly Hodaka.

Re: Cluttch issues

The clearance measurement of the "gap" is between the iron inner hub part and the outer aluminum cover of the clutch it's self. My experience has shown if you get too many plates crammed into the assembly ie too thick of a clutch pack, that gap gets down too small, so once it's assembled, ...

Re: Cluttch issues

Glad to help. I'll think of some more stuff to say I'm sure. Note these are considered over and above the usual "blueprinting" of the clutch plates as per Ed's informative article in the Resonator. The most important one being to modify the steels to clear the clutch bolts. I use a 1/4 str...

Re: Cluttch issues

The early 100 engines use smaller diameter springs, so the spring pockets are smaller in the steel center hub, on early ones, and the aluminum outer cover also. On some the screws are different thread pitch. If you see "ISO" cast into the outer cover, it uses the fine thread more common 5m...

Re: Cluttch issues

I always use an old crank stub and bushing etc and compress the clutch using a drill press (while it's turned off) as an arbor press. While the clutch is compressed turn the gear in the middle, that you used as an assembly/alignment aid. I try to use all the same parts that it has when mounted in th...

Re: Hodaka Super Brumby

What a ripper! Might have you ship that engine to me, and I'll test it out for you ;) I have been experimenting with different clutch stackup combinations, and various clutch cages. Recently I had my clutch work perfectly for an entire day of racing! This may not sound like much, but when it's being...

Re: Washougal VMX

I will be racing the Wolverine 125 on Saturday only. The track is mostly on a slightly rolling field. No big uphills or downhills, just nice bermed corners and bumpy straightaways etc. Last race there were two Hodakas in 125 the Jim Pomeroy Memorial 125 cc challenge race, which was held July 18th at...

Re: Coil ohms

I have acumulated a small box full of bad lower coils for Wombat. I would consider replacing that too just to be safe. Four out of five in my box of bad ones work just fine until you get six miles from no where, then they fail.

Re: Mike Allen needs your prayers very very much!

Mike is still very very sick and in a fragile state. Your prayers are very much appreciated. I would ask that you send him a get well card, c/o Allen's cycle in Spokane Washington, and they will be hand delivered. Please let him feel the love. Thank you for your prayers, and I'm sure that the Allen ...

Mike Allen needs your prayers very very much!

Hello Hodaka people! I am here to ask for prayers in earnest for our friend Mike Allen. He has had a massive heart attack last Wednesday. He was changing a tire, and started to feel intense pain in his neck and jaw, which spread to his chest and arm. He turned in his repair order at Allen's cycle, a...

Re: Hodaka Days '015

I think I would just keep the 18 and 21 combo with knobbies for trials and everything else. The Hodaka Days trial is geared toward having fun, so that's why there is a enduro class, just for people like you. The sections should be easy enough, compared to real trail situations so the main thing is t...

Re: Hodaka Days '015

In the enduro clas we allow knoby tires. The other classes specify trials tires, and the only trial tires allowed in the enduro clas would crappy nitto type trials tires that came on Road Toad, Wombat etc. IE no trials tires that would provide an advantage over knobbies on an enduro bike. This is th...

Re: Hodaka Days '015

The organizers really have no trouble filling up the Bad Rock ride, so they'd prefer to keep out the TT 50s XR 500s etc. Several years ago a rider was hurt badly and was mounted on a big sled. Apparently riding other brands leads to catastrophic bike accidents. :) Yes, I make them to order, and have...

Re: Hodaka Days '015

Much to my amazement no one has chimed in on this subject. I can't answer all of your questions, but the trials event is my responsibility, so I DO know about that. The bikes ridden in the trials event must be Hodaka or Yamaguchi powered, although no one has ever ridden a Yamaguchi in the trials eve...

Jack: I will take a few photos of the front end. I think it would help to pull up the fork boots and get a pic of what is under them too. Measurements forthcoming. Give me a few days on this as we are quite busy here. Might be Saturday before I can get to it, but we'll see.

Wow, I just ran across this for the first time. My apologies for not finding it sooner. The Wolverine fouled a plug even while running it flat out. My friend Jim Sawtell was there in the crowd with a plug and wrench. Problem was finding him, as the poor Hodie was just about done. When I stopped I ha...

Re: Attaching badges to Clarke tank

Clear silicone is advised, but I suppose right stuff would work also, as long as you are careful to remove any excess. I set the badge on the bottom ledge of the tank opening, and let the top part just set where it will. I'm sure you noticed that the tank openings are smaller than the badges right? ...
