175 exhaust port height

Does anyone have a stock 175SL cylinder to measure the exhaust port height?

Not sure what brand the brake is from, but isn't the photo showing the brake mounted on the wrong side of the bike?

Early Ace 90 clutch and shift covers

Were the early (1964) Ace 90 shift and clutch covers painted or polished?

Re: Rectifier question??

That unit is a bridge rectifier. It replaces the Hodaka selium rectifier. I found the bridge rectifier a much more durable unit than the Hodaka unit. Both units allow voltage to go one way only. I use them on all my Hodakas I convert from 6 volt to 12 volt. They can be tested in the same manner as s...

1969 to 1975 will work, later ones had, as I am told, reed valves (holes in the piston).

Hodaka's mud apron

Hodaka's extensive use of mud aprons on their bikes, did Pabatco insist on these, or was it Hodaka's idea?

Yes, that would be interesting to know the interference fit between the liner and cylinder.

Re: Lower triple clamp

Ed, I believe you may be correct. These items may have been available to Hodaka from an outside supplier who had other customers that required the addition drilled and tapped hole (and the cigar holder). I also wondered why the 01 ignition system featured the lighting coils also. May have been less ...

Re: Lower triple clamp

OK, no info on the U shaped boss. Now, how about the two smaller bosses on the rear section of the triple clamp, just behind the clamps. The one on the left is a 6mm threaded hole. Right one is not drilled. Who knows what the threaded hole was intended to be used for?

U shape #1. I think it is a cigar holder to be used at pit stops.

Lower triple clamp

Does anyone know what the U shaped boss is for, that is on the cast steel triple clamp, found on the smaller Hodakas?

swcaudill is way above a "home mechanic". He has performed countless projects that would make your head spin. One of a kind, a real pioneer not afraid to engineer new ideas into practical reality.

I also have a 1965 Ace 90. I used a piece of heater hose for the header to muffler connection. I will be at Toronto Ohio BSA meet also, along with at least another Hodaka owner. We will be riding the reliability run on our Hodakas.

Re: 250sl

If you try to get the stock Hodaka turn signals to work, you will be beating a dead horse. Their 6 volt system has to be 150% perfect and then they will not be dependable. I have gone to a 12 volt system for dependability. Only that way, in my opinion, will you get a nice operating system. Mike Perr...

Re: Victors Combat Wombat Thread!

I worked part time at a local Hodaka dealership back in the day. There were no Hodakas in the showroom that had 2X4's under the kickstand. 2X4's are not "normal". Something is bent, worn or mismatched.

Re: 250ED lighting circuit

Matt is correct that, the lighting does not care if the voltage is DC or AC. But the voltage regulators are not rectifiers also. The Hodakas came with a selenium rectifiers that change AC to DC. That is the square orange (sometimes green on the Ace 90's) device located in the back of the battery box...

Re: 02 Crankcase pressure leak

I checked the relation between the head nut and the stud while assembling the engine. I used two washers instead of one on each nut to allow enough "safety" clearance. That is not the problem here. I need to know if this stud is in a blind hole or not.

02 Crankcase pressure leak

A rebuilt 02 engine has a crankcase test leak around one head bolts under the washer. The one nearest the dipstick. Was there any discussion in the past about one head bolt seated in a open threaded hole (not a blind hole), one that was connected to the crankcase?

I restored my 100B+ back when Pabatco was still in business. 428 chains and sprockets were the replacement items at that time. I sent a letter to Pabatco and asked if 423 sprockets and chain were still available. They sent me both sprockets and chain. Not sure if they even requested payment. Still h...

I am not interested in selling my "used, beat the snot out of it" owners manual. This is better than not having one. If I run across a couple at a decent price, I will get both and see that you get one. I am not holding my breath on this one.

Re: Exhaust Pipe

My son David, took first place at Mid Ohio in the vintage 100 motocross intermediate class in 2010. He started in mid pack, rode to 1st place, then he decided to take on the 4 expert riders ahead of him, which he overtook. He rode a stock 98, with a HT2 pipe.
