That is a great idea. Useful and simple. Off to make my own. Thanks for sharing.

Re: More shifting problems
Hey Doug,
Hodaka shift covers are getting hard to find and I could use at least one and maybe two. I would be willing to trade labor for rebuildable shift cover. Let me know if interested.

Re: Name this bike
Nice looking bike. If it were mine I would remove the head and cylinder and inspect resulting damage. You could post pictures and we could assist in getting you going again. If indeed you do have a lean running condition due to an air leak the most likely suspect is the left crankshaft seal. The sea...

Re: 03 Wombat Fork Repair
Hey Scott, The first problem these days is to find an 03 Wombat front end. In this case I had an extra one in the attic so that worked out well for Phil. I do not have any others at this time though. If your question is more repair and restoration oriented it is a matter of time and materials. As we...

Re: 03 Wombat Fork Repair
Hey Ed, I had a squeezed tube type tool but the side wall was not thick enough to resist the turning force to dis-assemble this particular fork. The wall thickness on your tool seems to be greater than what I was using so it would probably have worked . Any way I wanted to get the size specification...

Rich, that is a great idea. Had to use what I had available at the moment. Would have saved a little time.

Re: 03 Wombat Fork Repair
Spoke with Phil and decided to fabricate some fittings so he could use air pressure to fine tune the forks. We dont know how this will turn out but it will be interesting to experiment. Anticipating that adding a little air pressure may be useful to supplement spring pressure, may be able to remove ...

Jeff,
It would not be unusual to apply the choke to start a cold 2 stroke engine.

Re: 03 Wombat Fork Repair
A little more acomplished today. Removed the wire retainer ring with a small screw driver, removed the washer and fork seal. Cleaned and preped fork housing for new seal and refinishing. DSCN0698.JPG The clear coat on the lower fork housing was missing in some places and what remained had turned yel...

Re: 03 Wombat Fork Repair
The most difficult part of dis-assembling the forks can sometimes be removing the hex fastener at the bottom of the fork housing. The hex fastener screws into the damper assembly. When attempting to dis-assemble...... the fastener and damper sometimes turn together rather than unscrewing from each o...

03 Wombat Fork Repair
I have a set of 03 Wombat forks that are being prepared for Phil Lachapelle. Phil has a Combat Wombat that needs a suspension upgrade. I have already completed one of the fork legs including refinishing. This is a popular upgrade for the earlier model Hodaka's and thought it might be good info for t...

Re: 03 Wombat oiler issues - different advice from the tech
Been away for a couple of days. Ed, The reason I question what screw was loosened to bleed air from the oil injection is Downerman's reference to "phillips screw bleeder". All of the check valve / banjo bolts I have seen on the 03 Wombat are hex head bolts.....maybe 7 or 8mm. Also his refe...

Re: 03 Wombat oiler issues - different advice from the tech
Downerman, I am a little confused by this statement, "then I tried to burp the top phillips screw bleeder and that was not good..... engine started to bog and from that point on it wouldn't idle and seemed like it was loaded up". If you are loosening one of the screws on the oil pump to bl...

Re: 03 Wombat oiler issues - different advice from the tech
Well my old age must be kicking in. I thought I had specs and proceedures on testing oil pump volume but can not find any info. Checked all the Hodaka manuals and nothing listed for models with oil pumps. Must have been thinking about my 74 Kawasaki 750. Personaly I like oil injection and it would b...

Re: 03 Wombat oiler issues - different advice from the tech
Hey Dave, The 03 is one of my favorite Hodaka's and I have a lot experience with that engine. I have to wonder if one of the check valves at the end of the oil lines is working properly....there are two of them on this engine. The check valve contains a one way valve that might be stuck in the open ...

Re: 03 crankshaft
Athough a "swap" is appropriate the crank will still have to be dis-assembled, parts replaced, pressed back together and trued.

Re: 03 crankshaft
Ok, did a little checking. 1. The 01 Dirt Squirt, 01 Road Toad and, surprisingly, the 82 Dirt Squirt all use the same two crank throws... part # 992701 and 992702A. 2. The 99 Road Toad uses the same 992701 left crank throw but the right crank throw is a different part number...992702. The difference...

Re: 03 crankshaft
Use Road Toad crank throws with 125 piston rod and bearing, 94, 95 model. It has been a while since I did one of these, working from memory, road toad crank pin and thrust washers. I am pretty sure the late model, painted tank, dirt squirt crank throws are the same as the Road Toad so that should wo...

Re: No rings Ace 100
Here are a couple of pictures that might help you with your clutch. Safety wire should be routed so it pulls the screw in the tightening direction. Wire should be reasonably tight. As you can see from the picture I used an old crankshaft throw held in my vise to assist. Danny Cooke http://i625.photo...

Point Ignition Rebuild
I started to document Tom's engine rebuild on the old Hodaka forum and got as far as complete dis-assembly and inspection. As you can see by this picture there are some issues that need attention....poor quality condensor installation, rubbed through wiring and breaks in insulation. http://i625.phot...
