Re: Wiring question for the 99 Toad

The stator plate may be setup for a Wombat. I believe they are the same, just wired differently. Which is what you'll need to check.

Re: Wiring question for the 99 Toad

I wanted to add to what Ed was saying. I think you actually have a Wombat ignition. Theoretically it will work but you have to make sure the wire connections are correct for a RT, as Ed was saying. In the Wombat ignition, the green and yellow-green from the mag are interchangeable. You can use one o...

Re: Ace 100 B cylinder studs

M7 x 1.0 if I remember right. Same on both ends. I've had to chase many threads with a tap or die, especially after re-plating. Certainly makes assembly easier. However, I have to partly agree with Clarence. You will not be able to re-tap the case threads fully unless the hole is a through and thro...

Yes, just use an 1154 bulb instead of the 1157. Same bulb, different voltage.

Re: Project Dirt Squirt

Actually it looks correct to me. That would be the correct light that came with the lighting kit anyway. Although the rubber washer you're using is much thicker than I would expect. I would suggest using a piece of an old inner tube cut to size instead.

Re: What tail light? 1965 Ace 90

When restoring these old gems, the correct parts will show up eventually, but be prepared to wait. I've waited up to a year or more for certain Ace 90 or Super Rat parts. Paul has a lens in his used inventory, and there is a backing plate, sans wiring, on eBay right now. If that doesn't work for you...

Re: Ace 90 - Blank Side Covers???

I saw the same Craig's list ad. Great looking bike for the money. I hope he brought it home. I was trying to say that it is an excellent starting point for a restoration or even a rider, I hope that's the message that came across. The other photos showed handlebars with the MX crossbar. Ace 90 and e...

Re: Ace 90 - Blank Side Covers???

As Dale said, this is correct for an Early Ace 90. The castings were included later. I would be incredibly tempted if it weren't so far away. ;-) Nice find, probably reasonable price too. The handlebars are not correct, the front fender is modified, not correct air cleaner, but those are easily repl...

Re: '72 Wombat (94) Stopped on me twice

I am at a loss. I thought sure it would be a plugged pipe as the symptoms you describe sounded just like mine when I had a plugged pipe and didn't know a pipe could get plugged. On the other hand, I've also seen what Dale describes too. If it were me, I would start the process of elimination; elimin...

Re: A Curious Ace 90 engine.

After some sleuthing, I think I'm able to identify what this is. Max piqued my curiosity so I did find information on a "wide ratio" 5 speed transmission available for the Ace 90. The gearing being the same as an Ace 100. This looks to be what I have with the exception of the main shaft wh...

Re: '72 Wombat (94) Stopped on me twice

That's starting to sound like a plugged pipe. Pull the spark arrestor out so that you have an open pipe and take it for another spin. If you notice an improvement, "cookin'' the pipe" might be in order.

I've really been wanting to respond to this and the other wiring post, but I'm having trouble finding the time to sit down and write. Writing is not my strong suit. I spent a great deal of time studying the wiring diagrams for the hodakas and I noticed a pattern that will be helpful. The basic wirin...

Can you just fit a Wombat / Toad magneto? Or not that simple :D I remember thinking this same question but I can't remember if I was able to answer it or not. I have the parts, I think I'll check tonight when I get home. The question would be does the stator plate fit and does the flywheel fit on t...

Yeap, a 94 Wombat fender should be a direct fit and has the mounting holes for the tail light.

I saw this post earlier and wanted to comment, but Life and snow storms got in the way... I want to study this problem a little more, but my initial thoughts are that it can be adapted to work, but as I kept thinking about it, I noticed a couple things that will get in the way. You have a Road Toad ...

Re: Hodaka Headlight

I'm curious because I happen to have a '74 DT 360 parts bike that has a good 6volt 35 watt head light that seems to fit my B+ bucket. And I wonder if I can use it? Probably not. Even though it may fit, the wattage is too high for the Ace 100B+. The Ace 100B+ has only a single light coil. Maximum lo...

The rectifier is located in the dark recess behind the battery of the battery tray. You'll see a single hole in the rear of the battery tray itself; which is where the bolt for the rectifier attaches. s-l300 copy.jpg (photo courtesy eBay) The horn is mounted to a tab under the tank, forward of the c...

I purchased one of those about 3 - 4 years ago also and noticed that the headlight opening was too small. The original headlight didn't fully seat. I think what you are describing was the same issue I had. To solve it, I used a grinder to widen the opening by about 1/8" total. (that was about 1...

It gets even more interesting... Turns out it's a 5 speed. I should have clued in to the c-clip securing the drive sprocket. The orange silicon blob is sealing a vent that exists into a cavity between the lower engine mounts. That's good news... I have to go out for the evening, but I think I'll sta...

A Curious Ace 90 engine.

Picked up a couple Ace 90 engines yesterday. One of them is a bit different but sports an early Ace90 serial: P1213. It has the Ace 90 Shifter Cover but no Ignition/flywheel. Note the absence of an oil vent in top, but it's inside the stator cavity instead via a small vent tube near the ignition cut...

I thought I would throw a couple thoughts... (Mainly for myself). As mentioned above you have an ignition from a later model Ace 100. All the parts are the same except the Ace 100 models moved to an external HT Coil. The exciting coil mounts to the stator plate where the Ace 90 coil mounted and then...

RE: a Wombat 94. I'm presuming that the better and later "93b" pipes will fit this frame/engine. Providing that the exhaust port/pipe fitting is compatible. Can the screw-flange fitting of the earlier type be adapted to the later slip-fit/springs type or would a new cylinder be needed? Ju...

Found this on a Super Rat I rescued from the crusher: IMG_4226.jpg I've seen a couple of them identical that make me think it was an aftermarket part. Connects over the crossmember in front of the footpegs and with u-bolts to the forward crosstube that has the engine mount tabs. It's about 3/16"...
