Re: ace 100 project

You can remove the Frame tag on the front steering tube by pushing the screw rivets from the inside of the steering head. In the few bikes I've re-finished, the hole is drilled through. I've used a stout dental pick to locate the hole and push the rivet back out enough to remove it with a pair of pl...

New 28mm Mikuni with Combat Wombat intake manifold and spigot adapter. Trim the intake boot to fit.

A modest performance bump, but noticeable.

Hodakagirl, Congratulations to you and your son. I hope all went well with the Crucible. It is a bear, I remember going through it myself, fond memories now... not so fond then. I'm not sure if many on the forum know of the Marine Corps boot camp Crucible, but its a right of passage and where you e...

Re: Headlights with different wire colors!

You must first determine the function of the wires on the headlight before you can effectively move forward. Which one is ground? which one is High Beam, and which one is low beam. This is the first step when I received a new headlight. On the Honda lights, which sounds like you have, the green is g...

Re: 6 Volt Headlights?

FWIW, I wrote the second post more than 4 years ago and I am still using the original halogen bulb. I also purchased the Beatrice lens earlier this year for my Sleeper Ace, with great results so far.

Modifying the trim ring to accept an aftermarket lens was definitely worth it for me.

Re: Where can you mount a RT reg on an M94

Sounds like Bill and I did the same thing. And we're not talking about the rectifier. My Battery box has extra mounting tabs to mount the "current limiter" on the right side bottom of the box just behind the battery. My battery bracket came from a model 94a I used a piece of angled aluminu...

Rule of thumb about HF tools in my area is that if you use a HF tool often enough to break it, go buy the name brand. Which almost paraphrases what Matt was saying. "Often enough" is still subjective but it's meaning is yours to determine.

nope, look's correct to me. it has a pinch bolt on the other side that secures the axle in place. The axle fits all the way through and threads into this end.

Re: Yellow Factory Frame 1970 100 MX

I wonder also, if anyone took a really close look at the OP’s photo. Careful scrutiny reveals that it is not a SR frame. It’s either a Wombat or DS frame. Probably a Wombat frame, considering the rather conspicuous “94” number plate. But I wouldn’t know for sure, I’m only guessing.

... Does anyone know if there's a list somewhere of which size bolt goes where? Yes. If you go to Strictlyhodaka.com or Hodaka-parts.com. Find the "shop by schematic" section and find your model. This will give you exploded diagram of different sections of the bike. Clicking on one of tho...

Re: 1973 Wombat 94a?

Sorry, I have to disagree. I see a bike worth much more than what I see in the comments. It is true that it's only worth what someone is willing to pay and the parts alone will add up to well over $1000. The engine is complete. Sure, I don't know it's condition without a few more photos, but an engi...

For the turn signal bulbs; I'm guessing it's a single filament, single contact, bayonet style? Are the pins offset or directly across? I'm guessing it's an 1129 from your local auto parts store. If it's a dual contact bulb, you can use an 1154. You might find it here: http://www.taillightking.com/li...

Re: new owner, need advice

One more question. When I order the seals and bearings and all that business, should I just get the rebuild package? I'm looking at the one on hodaka-parts.com. Probably not a bad idea since everything in the engine is at least 45 years old and without knowing it's history, you have a lot of unknow...

You have an excellent start for a rejuvenation. Like Kelly (socalhodaka), if it were me, I would bring it back to functional before attempting a full restore. This way you can have fun riding while you acquire or prepare for a more intensive rebuild. A couple thoughts: In my opinion, the seat foam c...

Erick, Those bearing races will pop right out if you didn't want to tape them off. I used an old socket extension and tapped a hammer to it around the inside circumference until it popped out. A little heat would probably help too. It really didn't take a lot to push them out on the frames I've repa...

Re: Super Rat 93 Cylinder Head Repairable??

Timeserts don't use standard taps. But one great advantage to using a timesert is that they are easily removable if ever needed. I used timeserts on a SR engine that had two of it's cylinder studs stripped. I didn't know there were timeserts big enough for a sparkplug hole. This is good news, I didn...

It's my understanding that any one-piece clutch cover will fit any non oil-injected engine. I have noticed that there are two variants though, one that has the dipstick on top and the other has the dipstick on the side. I've also seen that the covers with the dipstick on top were used for the Ace 90...

Reading through this I had alarm bells going off in my head. I had a similar situation rebuilding a very early Super Rat. After SO much work, I was installing the head only to have the very same problem; one of the studs stripped. After walking away from it that evening, I decided, (during a sleeple...
