Re: FINDING NUETRAL
I'm not really sure. If you can't back the bike up (engine running, in gear, clutch lever pulled in) . . . if clutch drag is causing that, it would seem that you would have to plant your feet to keep the bike from taking off. (so you wouldn't need to test for backing up . . . the machine would be te...

Re: Hodaka Super Combat throttle
Paul is on the road and it was easier for him to call me about this topic. One (or both) of us may have misinterpreted the question. IF the plan is to use a Super Combat twist grip with a 94 throttle cable on a model 94 Wombat with 24mm carb -- then using the 94 (Wombat) cable will work fine. Howeve...

Re: Hodaka Super Combat throttle
Are you sure about that Paul? The 94 throttle cable and the 95 throttle cable have different part numbers . . . because of the 4 mm difference in the carb throat diameter . . . which requires a difference in the amount of exposed inner cable which sticks out of the cable housing . . . doesn't it?

Re: FINDING NUETRAL
There is ALWAYS a bit of drag with a wet clutch. The oil between the plates and disks guarantees that there will always be a teensy bit of drag when the clutch is disengaged. That being said, a dragging clutch due to out-of-spec free-play at the engine clutch lever, or a warped steel plate or fricti...

Re: Ace 90 Clutch issues
It sounds to me like your clutch is "dragging" (not fully releasing when the clutch lever is pulled in). The first thing to check is the amount of freeplay at the clutch lever on the engine. Disconnect the clutch cable and measure the amount of freeplay available (measure at the outer end ...

Re: Ace 90 Clutch issues
I'm a bit stumped by the description of symptoms. It sounds like pulling in the clutch lever actually disengages the clutch - since you didn't describe any problems getting into 1st gear after starting and warming up the engine. In which case, if you let out the clutch while in neutral . . . and the...

OK! The snap ring tool is available again. There may be ways of installing the snap ring with make-shift tools . . . but life will be simpler and less time will be wasted if you just get the tool.

Wouldn't a 3.50X18 be more like 80/100X18 or 85/100X18? 100/100X18 is a 4.00X18 in my book.

I'm thinking the same sort of thing. And I wonder if a little wire brush work might reveal the original frame number stamped in the steering head gusset. (possibly filled with Bondo??)

California Desert Race video, circa 1967
This link takes you to a 30 minute video of a California desert race in 1967. J.N. Roberts won it on his new-fangled Husky. Brought back big time memories of races in Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington . . . and the ISDT Two Day Qualifier which was headquartered in Barstow, CA. http://www.youtube...

Re: removing ethenol from fuel
When I posted the question I had already started an experiment (see photos) . . . then I did an internet search on ethanol removal, and found out that I was on the right track. Unfortunately, I don't have the chemical listed to "dry" the ethanol free gasoline. Certainly there is concern ab...

So . . . no one is actually addressing the question implied in the subject line - "removing ethanol from fuel". What about it? Is there any practical way to remove the ethanol from E-10 or E-15 blends?

Hey, lookin' good out there on the trail on the Toad.
The bike Paul had for me to ride at the ISDT Reunion Ride had the MZB solid state ignition with lighting coil. It seemed to work just fine . . . and the lights ran all weekend.

Yes, you should be running 32:1 or 40:1. Select a reputable oil which is readily available in your area and follow the oil mfg. pre-mix ratio recommendation on the label. I suspect that some grunge has gotten past the fuel filter and is causing the float valve to leak . . . OR the float valve is wor...

. . . however . . . even if the conical hub gets installed . . . switching the backing plate to the other side greatly improves the cable routing. I guess I would have to admit that the bike I rode at the Reunion Ride had the conical hub with stock cam lever . . . and it was purty dang good! Ed PS: ...

This thread sort of shines a light on two differing schools of thought.
