Re: How to Post a Video?

A long shot, but it may not be internal. Sometimes an RPM dependent vibration (maybe not considered a buzz?) occurs when the engine mounting bolts are not centered. Loosen the mounting bolts and leverage the motor so that the bolts are centered in the mounting bracket holes and then tighten. A secon...

Chris, The best option is to post your video to Youtube or similar and then post a link to it here on this forum.

Re: More of the strange and unexplained

Darrell, I have experienced the same symptom on a Wombat. When I would turn the key to the 2nd notch for lights it would totally crap out. I didn't really try to isolate the cause as I changed out the points and condenser and the issue was resolved. I just logged it up to one more thing that didn't ...

They bolt to parts E1 (Air Cleaner Body) and part M20 (Fender rear(front)). The number plates themselves form the sides of the airbox.

Guessing that the 17/63 gears are straight cut? If so, then from a model 93 Super Rat.

Jay,
I was servicing a 98 Super Rat today and while I had it apart, I took some pictures. These might be helpful should you decide to fabricate your own.

Re: Looking for tire recommendations for newly acquired CW

I agree with Larry. I have gone around the pits at vintage races with my digital calipers measuring rear tires. The Cheng Shin 4.10-18 is the narrowest that I have measured outside knob to outside knob.

Cut a circle with dog ears. Drill a hole in each dog ear and use the oem springs to secure it in place.

Re: New members Road Toad in Central Texas

Rick,
Welcome to the forum! Your engine serial number is proper for a model 99 Road Toad. It is typical, on a Hodaka, for engine numbers to not match frame numbers.
Road Toads are fun little machines. Enjoy!

Welcome to the group. Lots of fun ahead for you! I recognize that bike. I believe that you were loading it up while I waited to get past you on the road into the park. It was all good. I love seeing another person getting hooked on the Hodaka brand.

I belive the one you show to be correct for the B+. As Dirty Rat mentioned, check all of the internals against the B+ specs.

Re: Variations in VM20 Carburetor Ace 100/B/B+

Well I can only add to the confusion! Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in with more history here. There are certainly 2 different versions of the VM20 carburetor. I believe that the one with the 45 degree angle on it was the earlier of the two. When they changed, I have no idea. Did...

Re: 1,2,3,N,5! What next?

Jay, you must have got it sorted out without a rebuild then? I'm glad that you will make it to the Kuna race. I will say that if your shift cover has the original aluminum bore and you are going to be racing the bike, I would plan to get it rebuilt with the much more durable sleeve. Then keep it cle...

Re: 1,2,3,N,5! What next?

Jay, To have your shift cover rebuilt, I would recommend sending it off to one of several of the talented Hodaka builders. That is unless you are a talented machinist yourself. Hodaka Dave, Hodaka Ron Liddle and Greg Watkins all do amazing work. If you need contact info for any of them, please send ...

Re: Road Toad contact points setting puzzle .....

I have run into this as well. My guess is that this was a result of the piston seizures that were occurring on the Road Toads. There were multiple changes made to gearing, carburetion and the mod to relieve the exhaust bridge. My guess is that they also suggested a retarded points setting. That is j...

Sounds like you are on the right path with your carb. It sure takes extra patience when one doesn't have boxes of needle and needle jet options on hand!
I will look forward to seeing you there!

Nice skills there Chris. Will we see this on the Bad Rock this year?
I don't have an answer on what jetting changes might be required. I would recommend going rich on the needle and the main and working back down to the correct jetting.

The number of the slide indicates the amount of the cut. So no, there is no way to transform a 2.5 to a 1.5.

Re: ACE 100 Kickstart shaft clearance

I would recommend talking to who you bought the shaft from and get their thoughts.
If it were mine, I would shim it up from both sides until you get the play that you are looking for. At the same time making sure that the starter gear is engaging the transmission in an acceptable place.
