Check the main jet and pilot tube for varnish.
Sounds like a gummed up carb.

Re: 6v headlight lamps…
I did that, but it has some draw backs. An incandescent bulb has the filaments spaced so that they are in the location of the focal point of the parabolic reflector. They are a point source of light. They radiate light all around, in all directions. LEDs don't. I found some LED 'bulbs' that fit a he...

If someone wants to play with it, I can find out what the LED numbers are, and you can see if it is something that might work for you. JR

Re: DIY zinc plating. Any success?
Another caution. When you pull the parts out of the cleaner, do not touch them with bare hands. Skin oil that gets on the parts disturbs the plating. Also, I doubt you will get a "bright" zinc plate using the bath you made. You might try adding a bit of glucose to the bath and see if that ...

Re: Ace 100B Rear tailight
Get a volt meter, and make sure it works. Fasten the negative lead to the frame, or battery negative terminal. Turn on the key, and see if you get a volt reading on either side of the rear brake switch, using the positive meter lead. No, check the wiring between the key switch and the brake switch. ...

Nut sizes
When I went to return my luggage rack / muffler bracket to its position on the rear of the frame, I didn't like the weathered look of the nuts and bolts, so I went to my local hardware store, which has a fair selection of metric nuts and bolts, and picked up some 8mm hard ware. When I got home and w...

Re: Rear shock replacement
Veddy intahrestinc, One problem I can see is that there may be some interference between the spring and the head of the plug bolt when the shock is assembled. Remember, on the Ace 100 Model 92, the shock body resides entirely inside the spring, with about three sixteens of an inch clearance between ...

Re: Rear shock replacement
That was easy!
Ten minutes on the press and the shaft is straight, the shock has oil and acts right when held in the right position, (Shaft down), and all's right with the world.
Thanks for the input, guys.

Re: Rear shock replacement
Thanks guys, I will try to straighten it out, but it feels as though the oil is gone. I've got a 20 ton press and some V blocks that we used to straighten a rifle barrel. If I can get it straight, I may try to rig a vacuum chamber full of oil just to see if it is possible to re inject some oil back ...

Rear shock replacement
Since it looks like the rear shock springs were chrome plated to the same standard as the Ace 100 gas tank, i.e. without benefit of a barrier copper coat, and the pinhole rust spots were gaining ground, I took the shocks apart and soaked the springs in an oxalic acid solution. A lick with some Scotc...

Well Albert, that is impressive.
Sometimes, the factory method of construction puts a 'crimp' in our efforts to reassemble things.

Re: Ignition switch schematic needed
Thanks Dale, that is exactly what I was looking for.
And as an added bonus, you showed me where to find out what the wiring was inside the magneto/alternator.
Now I can ascribe some ohm values to the various coils.
Thanks again, Jerry

Does anyone know of a source for the internal wiring diagram of the ignition switch for a 100 Ace? (model 92)

Dead headlight wanted
Howdy, If anyone has a burned out headlight for a 100 Ace that still looks OK, just doesn't light up, I would be happy to pay 5 dollars and postage for it. I think I have a way to re-bulb the thing, and need a test subject. I live in Colorado, so the closer you are, the better. If you PM me, we can ...
