Re: Redline on start
Weird, I haven't been removing them.. buggy site maybe. I believe I found the leak... really big oops. Right along there with the guy who dropped his new cam shaft. There was a gasket just plain old missing, the one between intake manifold and jug. A few months ago I had it apart when a friend wante...

Re: Redline on start
I cannot share thoughts on this, as I look closer I don't think all the parts you have are going to work together. I don't see how the reed valve can hook up?? I would never use ether on a dry engine or anytime(no lube), But I would put a tablespoon of 2 cycle oil in the spark plug hole and kick th...

Carb is from a Wombat, reed valve setup is not original either as is the piston. I'm not sure what a Super Rat is supposed to havetaber hodaka wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 6:26 pm Not a super rat cylinder, they are a four bolt not two as shown in the picture, ?? --- Clarence

Re: Redline on start
I do have an original kill switch installed. It reads out as working on the ohm meter but I haven't been able to test it out while running of course. Regarding the air leak, I should've included a picture.. it may have just looked strange. I may go back in and redo every gasket and have someone redo...

Redline on start
Hello all, Recently got spark, etc and have been working on getting my Rat running. It's a 1970, had been sitting since the 80s in a dry dark garage. It has a "brand new" .030 piston with reed valve setup(came back from engine shop before being parked). So, I have tried to be careful with ...

Re: How to Wire New Coil to Old system
I sanded the flywheel and the coil core armature plates in case of contamination. They were quite dirty. The crank key was quite beat up so I'm waiting on that to come in before giving it another go Also the flywheel definitely was rubbing against the coil core ends. I know this is a problem but how...

Re: How to Wire New Coil to Old system
I also mounted the coil 180 degrees from how you have it mounted. You’ll need to be sure nothing arcs against the under side of the tank tunnel with that “unusual angle.’’ And depending on the condition of the paint, you might want to strip some paint off the frame where the mount makes contact, ju...

Re: How to Wire New Coil to Old system
Currently can't see a spark, but I can definitely smell the wires in the magneto(I wouldn't say its bad-my collection of 70 year old electric trains does the same). What is wrong with my setup? Also my original spark plug had the top cap gone so I had to harvest one from my push mower. They look a l...

Re: How to Wire New Coil to Old system
The captain is correct. I connected one of these as well. Your black wire connects to the spade tab and your blue wire can be connected as a ground. I used a loop connector on the blue wire connected to one of the mounting bolts for the ground connection. I use a 2 wire ground so I have a 3 way bul...

How to Wire New Coil to Old system
Hello all- I bought this coil- https://www.speedandsport.com/product/ignition-coil-universal/ for my Super Rat. The coil on mine is intermittent and the tabs are bent and it's just not in good shape, so I decided to buy this. I'm confused on how to wire to this new coil, which has a singular tab ins...

Re: 1970 Super Rat- Carb Woes
I'm still trying to get in touch with my uncle about the history behind this bike. I know he wasn't the original owner but definitely spend some time and money on it and would know anything about it. If it means anything else, ACE 100 is on the other side of the trans case. I know they used the 100 ...

Re: 1970 Super Rat- Carb Woes
Can you give us either of the diameters indicted on the photo? MysteryCarb copy.jpg . . . and while it may not help (but it might) show us a photo of the throttle valve (slide) and pilot jet and the floats. . . . and further - which may not help (but it might) - what is the needle designation? (sta...

1970 Super Rat- Carb Woes
Hello all- I have finally gotten a chance to put my Super Rat together. I ordered a carb rebuild kit for a Model 93(not 93A or B) a few months ago and just got it out. After taking apart the carb, it became apparent that the kit didn't match the carburetor. Inspection of serial numbers show that the...

Re: Trouble contacting Hodaka-Parts.com
I've never gotten an email back from them, and I called yesterday during operating hours and did not get a response. I've ordered from them before but it seems like they're on an "open when we feel like it" deal. Simply not the case! They are extremely busy people trying to keep our Hodak...

New Hodaka Owner
Hey guys! I am a new owner of a 1970 Super Rat 100. This was my uncles as a teenager. It was driven less than frequently and has spent the last 40 some years inside a garage. All parts are there, including the air cleaner, just not on the bike currently. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ngBeaYBix4R...
