Re: The Toad Runs!
Thanks all! I'll do some more digging and tinkering and report back when I can. Leak down test looks easy enough so I'll throw that together the next time I have time as well. It's been a fun project so far and came at a great time with Covid. Albert - you are not wrong. I've spent more money on muc...

The Toad Runs!
After about 2 months of tinkering (don't laugh) I've got my dad's old road toad running well and starting on the first kick. I want to make sure I'm not going to ruin this thing shortly after I get it started. At this point, everything on the engine from the carb to the exhaust is factory original. ...

Re: 02 Toad Oil Pump Delete
Figured I'd post an update for you guys in case anyone else was interested. I found some rubber plugs on amazon for sheet metal and they ended up working fantastic for this. They don't look perfect but for what I was looking for they are great. The product description was: 5/8" 15 MM Black Rubb...

Re: Banjo Bolt?
I need a caliper to check these myself I know! Bike repair cost to get it decent: $300. Tool cost to repair bike. $300. Haha!
I need to track down that screw, and some plastic plugs for the holes where the grommets were and I’ll have most of the easy stuff done.

Banjo Bolt?
Hey guys, did the oil pump delete on a model 02 road toad. Wondering if anyone knows the size / threads for the banjo bolt that goes into the intake? I want to blank that off as well. It’s part 993721 in the manual for reference. Thanks!

Re: Joining the club!
Hey Victor, it's going well. I haven't had as much time to work on it as I'd hoped and I don't have a great set-up or all the tools needed for something like this yet so I'm picking away at it to make it not so expensive. I've got the tank, battery cover and air cleaner all sanded and ready for pain...

Re: 02 Toad Oil Pump Delete
I'm really liking the plastic plug idea as it seems easier to remove when / if i ever want to re-install the pump. Great idea. thanks!

02 Toad Oil Pump Delete
Hey guys, I'm working on an 02 Toad and going through the 'easy' stuff right now but had a question on the oil pump delete. I bought the kit from Terry but realized I wasn't sure what to do with the holes where the rubber grommets are for the oil in and oil out lines. What's the consensus best way t...

Re: Time for rings?
I'm rather suspicious that anything would be worn much after so few miles. If it hasn't actually run for a long time I'd give a chance to reseat itself and blow the crud of time off the cylinder wall. 100 psi will get it running just fine. The second ring could be stuck in its groove. I'd be very c...

Re: Time for rings?
Make sure you do The compression test with the throttle wide open as well. You have to let enough air in to compress it. :ugeek: Victor Thanks Victor! I'll admit...the first time around I didn't but then remembered you had to. Unfortunately the 100psi was with the throttle wide open. I'm learning (...

Time for rings?
Hey guys - I got around to the compression test on the Road Toad last night and it was quite low unfortunately. I hit 100 psi on the initial test and bumped up to 110psi after a few drops of oil in the spark plug hole. I'm going to try and start with rings and cross my fingers for a 150 reading next...

Re: Joining the club!
Welp...starting off well. This is my wiring harness under the seat and I broke 4 bolts trying to remove the luggage rack :). One a side note, this sticker from the original dealer is still on the bike which is kind of cool. Once it's running it looks like some wiring is in order. IMG_0220.jpg IMG_02...

By joining the Club, do you mean the fact you have a Hodaka or are you really joining the club? http://www.hodakaclub.org I should have worded that better. I mean joining the club in that I finally own a Hodaka! You should consider spending the 24 bucks and really join the club. You wil then have a...

Re: Joining the club!
They are great bikes to restore! If you can get at least a parts manual, you’ll have information on assembly order and part numbers! I have one and the Wombat shop Nanual. Between the 2, it provides good info! I’m working on restoring an original fender now. :ugeek: Victor I saw hodaka parts carrie...

Re: Joining the club!
Thanks for the reply! I'll look into the cover and foam on hodaka parts. Yeah the oil injection system is one of the first things on the check list. The clutch was a little goofy when it ran last time. I seem to recall one of the gears not working at all. The tires are definitely in rough shape and ...

Joining the club!
I picked up my dad's 1976 Road Toad this weekend. I cannot wait to start tearing into this thing and trying to get it back to its glory days. This toad sat for close to 30 years. At about year 15, my young dumb self got it out of the shed and begged my dad to drive it. He said I could give it try kn...
