Re: Newly rebuilt Dirt Squirt bogging down

Sorry to sound like a stickler . . . but I'm a bit cautious about jetting which moves one step richer from a known too lean condition - and calling that good. I'd highly recommend going another step richer on the needle clip position to see if things go just a hint rich. If it does, then you KNOW t...

Re: Newly rebuilt Dirt Squirt bogging down

Thanks for all your input guys, I believe we have solved the problem. I raised the needle a notch and now the Squirt screams. Wheelies in 2nd and 3rd, rooster tails...smooth as silk. I really didn't expect that much change but it did the trick. Impressive power for a 100cc trail bike! I'm just gonna...

Re: Newly rebuilt Dirt Squirt bogging down

[/quote] A few quick questions: 1) Was the engine well warmed up prior to the "speed trials"? 2) What spark plug are you using? 3) Proper gap? 4) Have you tried swapping for a brand new plug?, and 5) what does the firing end of the plug look like? Every so often, you can get a bogus plug. ...

The air filter element and cage are brand new. The filter housing has been cleaned and painted, the rubber boot was reconditioned air tight.

Newly rebuilt Dirt Squirt bogging down

Well I finally got the Dirt Squirt fired up, fired on 4th kick after complete rebuild. Idles smooth, revs nicely while stationary, maybe a little excess smoking but not too bad and it clears up with a little throttle. After that first start it literally starts on first kick every time. After several...

OK thanks everyone. Since no specific values are listed for the fasteners I mentioned I will use the old German torque specification " gutentite ".

96 Dirt Squirt torque specs

I have scoured the manual, the tech specs, and this forum but I'm not coming up with torque specs for front and rear axle nuts, front pinch bolt and upper and lower fork clamps. I'm sure I can guess pretty close but I'm a little picky about going by the book. Any guidance?

Re: Dirt Squirt clutch spring specs

Thanks! I didn't know the tech sheets were there! That outer 20mm spec is the one that had me worried, but it obviously doesn't apply.

Dirt Squirt clutch spring specs

I'm trying to evaluate the condition of these 96 DS clutch springs and the only spec I can find is in the manual which is for Ace 90. The Ace 90 shows a 6 spring clutch vs a 7 spring clutch on the DS. According to the part numbers the two bikes have different springs. The DS uses #934011 and #934017...

Re: Clutch Assembly

could be it would not help but if you went to -- Hodaka Parts Inc -- go to parts schematic for the 96 DS. On my computer, I can blow the picture up to 140+ and it is fairly clear. ----------------Clarence yeah I have used those schematics and ordered many parts off of them, I was looking for someth...

I found that one and did the blueprinting. Thanks

Clutch Assembly

Getting ready to rebuild/reassemble the clutch on my 96 DS. Outside of the manual (which I have) is there any write up (hopefully with pics) on the assembly of the clutch? I have searched exhaustively but didn't come up with anything. Thanks!

Re: 96 Dirt Squirt tire options

I managed to get a 2.75 x 19 and a 3.50 x 17 IRC GP1 from two different sources. They definatly seem to be scarce, but that'll hold me for a long while. Next time I may have to think about going to 18-21. Thanks for the help!

That's not a bad looking tire! And they have the sizes although the 2.75 x 19 is listed as a rear. I guessing at these speeds that's not going to make any difference.

I would prefer knobbys but if they're hard to come by I could go with something less aggressive.

96 Dirt Squirt tire options

I was just wondering what tire options folks have found for this bike? Stock is front: 2.75x19 and rear is 3.25x17...I don't seem to be finding a lot available, that and the fact I don't really know what metric tires might fit. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Engine Washers

Hi and thanks for adding me! I've been reading this forum for the last 5 months but this is my first post, as I'm just now really getting started rebuilding my 96 DS engine. I've had the crank rebuilt along with a fresh bore and piston, many thanks to Dave and Terry. All new bearings and bushings ar...
