My friend Mike Lake hooked me up with a crank rebuild, tru, and weld. I'll fill the holes when I get it back. Reassembly, CDI inner rotor ignition, and bigger clutch next.

Re: CDI ignition options (besides PVL or Power Dyn)

I'm diggin the cr125 setup. The ignition was the last big hurdle in my engine build. The lack of a key way isn't a big deal. Sounds like some aftermarket ignitions don't even have a slot in the flywheel. Not enough mass to slip on the shaft I assume. Thanks for the input.

Re: CDI ignition options (besides PVL or Power Dyn)

Thanks, the year range helps. There's alot more ignition parts available for the Honda. HPI offers a system for the Cr125 and it is upgradable Post purchase. You can add dual maps and almost infinitely adjustable timing maps and rev limiting.

CDI ignition options (besides PVL or Power Dyn)

Trying to locate a complete Hodaka CDI system for my flat track 99 Toad is proving difficult. Has anyone swapped a stator plate and flywheel from another manufacturer? Been looking at kx60, ke100, yz100, elsinore 125 systems online but I dont have anything in my hands to actually compare. Also if so...

Re: 99 toad vintage moto racer... build thread!

Forgot to post some of the other details. Like the yz460 Vforce reed and the comical size comparison of the carb.

Re: 99 toad vintage moto racer... build thread!

Progress has been made on the engine. I tore it down and sent the required pieces to RacerClam. Almost have everything finished up with him. Engine assembly is next

Re: 99 toad vintage moto racer... build thread!

I will keep that in mind. That sounds exciting! And potentially gruesome... in communication with Rich at Rich's Taylor'd porting. Can't wait to hear this thing when it's done!

Re: 99 toad vintage moto racer... build thread!

Made some more progress today. Got the pipe mostly mounted. Moved the air filter housing to the other side of the bike because I can't ride without the Toad. Pulled the fenders, lights, and all of the wiring. Trying to figure out tank and seat options. Currently sporting a DT2 tank and a cut down pw...

I did read that on their site. Trying to find another copy of the modifications bulletin since the link to strictly hodakas website is no more.

Acetylene welded the cones yesterday. First time welding sheet metal with gas. This probably won't be the only pipe I make, practice makes perfect.

Looking for HT-7 bulletin

Try to find the information listed in said bulletin. Prepping a 99 toad for circle track use. Links of older posts lead to Strictly Hodaka's site that kicks to the Hodaka-parts homepage. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Re: 99 toad vintage moto racer... bad idea?

Mike sent over the schematics for a pipe design. I'm thinking that I will build that first. Doesn't do any good making this motor suck, squeeze, and bang better if I can't blow better....

Re: 99 toad vintage moto racer... bad idea?

No, yes, and go for it. Strip off the lights, turn signals, horn, and rack.... Thanks Matt, I located that article on building up the toad. That was exactly what I was looking for! Contacted my friend Mike Lake today and told him my plans, He's going to share some insight during the build as well.

99 toad vintage moto racer... build thread!

I've been thinking about getting into vintage motocross recently. Always been a fan of ringing out smaller bikes, so the 100cc class sounds like my in. Now the '75 Road Toad that is in question is no concourse quality example, so I feel it would be a good candidate for a track bike. Would it be a ba...

Sorry for the delay.... Yes I will be coming back. That Bad rock ride is a nice Teaser for the vintage campout/ride I have with some friends later in the season.

Re: HD first timers!

Gearyoliver, we had a lot of fun. The toad didn't make it far, but my backup '71 Suzuki 90 saved the day. I stopped and chatted with the trials riders during the Bad Rock. They convinced me to give it a go. 6th outta 8 in the novice class was a success in my book.

Re: HD first timers! And now a camping question

New plug definitely made it a bit crisper. Took it through neighborhood a bit farther and checked the plug. Mixture looks pretty good, but I may have to put more miles on it to be sure. A question I had about camping... Will we be hard pressed to find a couple tent spots after the Bad Rock? Original...
