Paint color recommendations
Hey guys another quick question for you. What are some of the more common paints used for matching up the blue frames such as 98 rat. I seen in one thread that rust oleum navy blue is used. How does it hold up?

Re: Rebuild
I'm on Wisconsin. Not sure of anyone around here that specializes is hodaka specifically. So yeah, time isn't a big deal as I'm not in a hurry. I guess I'm more interested in how much I should expect to pay.

Rebuild
Hey guys, looking at having my 98 rat motor redone by a pro. Anyone have any general info on Hodaka dave? Cost mostly. I'm sure his abilities are not an issue. Any info appreciated.

So I got my parts very quickly, thanks to Terry and Bev! Clutch is working great and has been fun just riding around the yard.

Re: Clutch 98 super rat
Brian thanks you were definitely pointing me in the right direction. No wonder why when I put the damn thing together without clutch nut it would work. I got the parts on order. I'm willing to bet new bushing and washers fix it.

Re: Clutch 98 super rat
Ed here is a previous post from like 12 years ago. I think this is what I have going on. Ah-ha (as in a Eureka moment)! I think you may have found it! If the inner thrust washer has a wear ring which lets the inner end of the clutch bushing sit significantly more "inboard" than it should (...

Re: Clutch 98 super rat
Brian, I'll check it but as far as I'm aware the bushing almost sits flush with the inside of the rotor gear so I'm not seeing how cause what the drag. The the rotor gear and pinion gear seem to spin around it fine. I'll say this though, the first time I took off the clutch but I stripped it out the...

Re: Clutch 98 super rat
Ed, I've gone through and removed an washboarding I could see and I've also polished up the plates too. So I'll rule out the covers as an issue. The only other thing I can think of right now is that when I test the clutch out dry I don't usually torque down the clutch nut, in fact I don't even think...

Re: Clutch 98 super rat
Hi Ed, just to clarify, when I was talking about the clutch plate (side that the screws enter) not moving freely, I was talking about when it he basket was empty and I try to attach it to the basket. It fits real snug and you have to almost snap it around the basket. Once it's on I can't move it at ...

Clutch 98 super rat
Hey guys, been awhile since I posted anything on here. Im still dealing with a clutch that sticks or doesn't disengage properly when I pull the clutch lever. I've followed the resonator article for dealing with clutches and everything seems to move freely when I assemble it. I've noticed when I put ...

Re: Same Issue
Still Farting around with this clutch. I was playing around with different shims and at one point when I had everything together without the gasket for the clutch case and it seemed like it was disengaging to where could move the bike back and for fairly easy and without hearing the compression. But...

Re: Same Issue
Hey guys, still having same issues with my clutch after adding some shims to get the free play in spec. Wondering if my next step should be the pinion bushing. Anyone know what length it is?

Interesting information guys. Good to know that this is what I should have expected had I known. Lol. Hopefully I ordered enough spacers.

Re: Same Issue
I ordered some shims and a new pressure piece while I'm at it. I think I really need to get the play out of the arm first. I know when it worked right there wasn't any play it it. Just curious if anyone else has put in the new clutch plates/disks and had the same issues. I have 3 shims in in already.

My clutch pressure piece is also worn pretty good too. It's not even. Sits flush in its house though.

Re: Same Issue
Thanks for all the good info. I'll check to see if I can test the clutch by take any slack out of cable and order some shims in case that's it. I used some cheep 90wt oil in the gear casing, could that be causing issues?

Re: Same Issue
That's what I'm thinking at this point. I'll order some shims and hopefully that does the trick. I know after blueprinting the parts that needed it everything moved pretty smoothly through the basket.

Same Issue
So after installing new clutch plates and friction disks and blue-printing the hub and basket I'm still having issues with the clutch. When I start the bike and pull the clutch in, put it in gear it's fine. Once the clutch engages first gear and I disengage it still grabbing and wants to stall at sl...

Just wanted to say thanks to all the guys that take time out to answer questions. Just got the Bike back together and it seems to be running great. I know I still have to replace the clutch but overall the bike is in good shape. If not for this site and you guys who knows how far I could have got or...

Crankshaft Washer?
Having trouble reading the schematics. Does the left crankshaft washer go on the outside of case next to the seal or inside of case next to the bearing? It's Part 29 in the schematics. 98 superrat

Re: Counter Shaft/Clutch
I did read a thread that mentioned the same issue after rebuild. The guy figured out with the new gasket he couldn't get enough free play because of spacers. Could I have too many spacers causing it to barely be engaging the gears?
