Re: RT carb question

50 years ago is only a moment in time. Most of the foundational thinking for mathematics, chemistry, and the universe were espoused before Christ. The oldest pyramids are something like 8,000 years old and are probably three dimensional shadows of a fourth dimensional object left here when the alien...

Re: The 2 the Max Project

Max, First of all, you are doing prototype experiments here, so try whatever comes to mind. Why not. But..... don't do the two or three hole design on the legs. All this does is make weak points where the arm will bend. Quarter inch aluminum isn't structurally sound material to begin with. Creating ...

Re: The 2 the Max Project

Max, Looking at the design pieces, I am going to predict that the foot rest arm, the part that will bolt through your spacer with two small bolts, is going to flex inward toward the wheel when you push against it with your foot. I would add a third bolt at a minimum on the opposed side of the swinga...

46 years later and I still don't have a special tool for the shift shaft spring clip. Didn't know there was one until last year.

Re: The 4th Hodaka - 2nd Road Toad!

Jack. The fuel flows fine without the filter. It just didn't want to flow well with the filter because it made the line buckle upwards after the filter. I think the 90* filter ends will give me what I need. And I know I need the filter! Thanks! Victor When you say buckle do you mean a kin...

Not that I have seen every model 98 every sold in the US, but I have never seen one with decals on the tank. Nor have I seen a photo produced by Hodaka for print showing decals.

Re: The 4th Hodaka - 2nd Road Toad!

If fuel won't flow through the filter into a dry carb, first check the petcock for actual fuel flow without any hoses attached, then verify your float valve and inlet passages on the carb, as well as vent passages and overflows. Sounds like either very little fuel, or an air lock.

Re: Super rat date!!!!

All the Rats had frame numbers stamped on the frame. The number should place you in the relative range of production date. The chart is on the Strictly Hodaka website. If you have trouble finding the chart, post your number, and someone will look it up. Look on the left side of the frame up high aro...

Re: The 2 the Max Project

Hmm. Interesting. As you move the axle back as in chain adjustment the brace to prevent rotation becomes parallel to the swing arm and the angle of the cable also rotates forward. A parallel brace should go into tension as the brake plate starts to rotate. By the way, the brake plate is also clampe...

I never use Safari or Explorer, or any default browser. IMac uses Firefox, minis use chrome. Problems occur randomly on both, but only recently.

I use Chrome and have had problems on some days, and not on others. I have had problems while at home, and while on the road, and have also had it work at home and on the road. I do not allow automatic software updates on any of my computers, and have not done any updates recently, but have had days...

Re: Another rookie question and possible mistake.

I have used helicoil frequently over the years. But the Time-sert looks like a better deal. A kit costs more, $70 - $80 for a kit with tools and five inserts versus $29 -$50 for the helicoil, but the product is far more substantial. I would be tempted to do all four if I had to do one anyway. One ki...

Re: Another rookie question and possible mistake.

I know this probly sounds crazy, but would it be possible to add more threads to a new stud? Just trying to think of ideas for a temporary fix for now. I would think you can't add threads because I think the cylinder stud threads are rolled, not cut. But you can certainly try. If the stud shaft is ...

You can use mild steel tubing for the kicker tubes. There are many sources online for technical tubing, or you may find what you need at the hardware store. I have used chrome moly for this, and didn't have any troubles with MIG welding the tube to frame. But I don't think you really need something ...

Wombat specs call for a steady fire across a 7mm gap at 500rpm and 8mm at 5,000rpm. If it will do this, it doesn't matter what the spark looks like. You will need a spark tester for this so you can watch the spark, adjust the gap while the bike is running, and not get zapped. Plug choice is up to yo...

I don't think there is a torque value needed here. Make them snug. Once the head is installed, the head nuts are torqued and the whole stud assembly is in tension.

Re: Same Issue

Racking can be reduced 80-90% by simply replacing the stock screws with over the counter, hardened, full shank countersunk screws. Reason- the shank is larger ( 4.8mm instead of 4.4mm) so the screw isn't as free to wander around in the hole in the steel cover. It is the steel cover that does the mos...
