Re: Gasket removal tips?
Thanks for the additional tip Rick! Just an FYI...the paint stripper worked great. It loosened all the residual gunk up enough for me to use a bronze bristled gun cleaning brush to gently wipe it all away. Of course now I have to clean some freshly sprayed high heat engine case paint off the very sa...

Re: Gasket removal tips?
Thanks! Just picked up some acetone, but now I may try the paint stripper first...since I bought a gallon of that last week to strip all the engine cases. In any event, I'm sure I now have enough chemicals here to eat through whatever is left on the edge of that engine case mating surface. ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)

Gasket removal tips?
In the middle of what I thought would be a somewhat quick process and now I've decided to ask for some "tips" to hopefully prevent this from becoming an all day affair. I'm replacing the clutch cover gasket on my '75 (99) Road Toad due to having all the side covers off the engine for paint...

Re: Help with repacking wheel bearings
I guess I should probably clarify; the cost of replacing the bearings isn't an issue. If it were, I probably wouldn't own motorcycles at all. :) That said...the bike only has a little over 1000 original miles on it and by all indications so far (checking free play, etc.), the bearings are fine. The ...

Help with repacking wheel bearings
I'm looking to repack the wheel bearings on my '75 model 99 Road Toad and was wondering if all I need to do to get to the bearings is remove the part that is described in the parts list as the "oil seal" to access the bearings themselves. If so, is there a preferred way to do this so as no...

Re: Road Toad - DOUBLE head gaskets?
Thank you very much for the tips Dale. I'll be using a new gasket, as I ordered the entire gasket kit for the bike. I have a friend that is very knowledgeable with the tests you mentioned, so I'll get some help from him when I reassemble everything. While I've never heard of the squish band, I found...

Re: Road Toad - DOUBLE head gaskets?
Thanks Dale. I guess now I'm wondering if I should put it back together the way it came apart (using two gaskets), seeing as it was running fine. You don't think there's any damage I could do by just using the normal "1 gasket" method, do you?

Road Toad - DOUBLE head gaskets?
I pulled the head off my '75 model 99 Road Toad to give it a fresh paint job along with the case covers and when I did...I noticed that there were TWO (2) thin metal head gaskets in place. I know this isn't normal, but I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on why there were two of them. I b...

Re: Clutch cover gasket - sealant needed?
Thanks! I'm hoping the "newer paper gasket" that you mention is what comes with the gasket set I ordered here at Strictly Hodaka yesterday! I didn't know there was more than one type available.

Re: Need help with tires
I just experienced the same problem with tires for my Road Toad. Everybody made a 2.75-19 for the front, but never a matching 3.50-17 for the rear. I'm guessing it's not a popular size any more. In any case...I finally found a solution with IRC. That particular brand made a tire (the GP1) that came ...

Replacement hand grip question
OK...so I can't believe that I actually have to post this question, but I spent over an hour online last night trying to find the answer on a multitude of websites and was unsuccessful everywhere I looked! I need to replace the hand grips on my model 99 Road Toad. I peeled each one back far enough t...

Clutch cover gasket - sealant needed?
Just wondering if any type of sealant is recommended when replacing the clutch cover gasket on a model 99 Road Toad. I'm stripping and repainting the engine and was wondering if a new cork gasket is all that is needed or if something additional makes for an even better seal.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Road Toad tire tube question
Yeah....I know....everything is complicated these days! It's not the valve stem itself that is either round or oval, but rather the base of it....where it attaches to the tube. I'll try and attach a photo showing the difference. I went ahead and ordered the TR4 tubes as they seemed to be the "n...

Road Toad tire tube question
Hello folks - Just picked up a '75 Road Toad last week and I'm in the process of getting everything "road ready". I'm going to be replacing the tires and tubes and was wondering if anyone knows if I need to order inner tubes with the TR-4 or TR-6 valve stem. My understanding is that the di...
