Re: Greg Watkins shift cover rebuild
Yep, Greg is the man! I had him do one of them for me after seeing Kellys. Mine is also a 1 up 4 down like yours. I wanted one for my 71 rat because taking the rat and another bike with a opposing shift patterns to the races is a recipe for miss shifts. I've had Greg do a bunch of stuff for me and h...

Re: Shift Cover Bushing Repair Video
I had done one myself in the past. The last one I had Greg do for me. Good people and great work. A brone bushing that's going to last and best of all, 1 down and 4 up on my 71 rats. Back to back motos in vmx when the two different bikes have opposite shift patterns is not a recipe for success in my...

Re: Shifting issue
Kelly hit the nail on the head. Where the shaft slides through on the cover is the part that fails. It is many times well worn and the cover can even be cracked on the inside causing the bore to be even larger. The permanent fix is to machine the cover to accept a bushing and then machine that bushi...

Yes, I could use the one on the left (or at the top) for my 98 rat motor that I have in a 71 rat. Let me know what you are looking to get for it.
Thanks,

Re: Spark Plug Reading 101
And for those that are illiterate, there is a special tool and mount designed to have others inspect and decipher the plug. A company called Webco had made a cast aluminum two plug holder and wrench. It was designed to change out and hold two champion spark plugs so that they could be read their las...

Re: ace 100
Yeah, I have one eventually to get to. It's my mom's 69 ace 100. My parents are the second owner of it. They bought it from friends in the early 70's. It has been sitting in a trailer since around 77 and has the original bill of sale, title and all the brochures and manuals that it came with. Does t...

I have also had success lapping the stock brass ones. Maybe I just got lucky and I should try my luck with another set that I have?

Re: Best Tank Rust Cleaners
It may have been here, but I'd seen apple cider viniger mentioned to remove rust inside of gas tanks. I gave it a try along with some loose bolts and nuts and the stuff worked out pretty well. Your friend might want to give it a try.

Re: Good explanation of oil mixtures
Hey Joe, That Cycle Rider is my local go to shop. It seems like the majority of people here go with the Yamalube. I picked up some but have yet to try it out. It also seems that most run their bikes at 32:1. I ran my 93a for pretty much a whole vmx season on Maxima K2 at 50:1 on a vm 24 with a 30 pi...

Re: Market for seat pans?
Would the seat pans be stamped using a heavier gauge metal? For owners that plan on racing their bikes, I'm of the opinion that they would need to be. I have two 71 Rats and I reinforced both seat pans so that they will hold up if (when) I race them. The seat pan gauge of the metal and the steering ...

I learn something new every day. I'd assumed my 93a came with a close ratio. I'd gotten it as a kid and was the second owner. The previous owner of mine must have installed a close ratio in it.

Joe,
What was the cause of you needing to replace the close ratio transmission that was already in your 71 rat?

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Efk, I found this from this site back in 2014: http://hodakaforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=504 If you go through the tread it looks like the 100B's and SR's had a different red compared to other Ace models. If one was to use a rattle can to paint a Rat (up to 72) the color can be found on the inside of t...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
So are you saying that all of the Ace 90's/100's and early Rats all had the same paint code/color on them?
Any former Hodaka dealers out there that can confirm this?
Thanks in advance,
D

Re: STOLEN BIKE(S) -partial Recovery.
A friend of mine had a couple of Yamaha race bikes stolen out of his garage a few weeks ago. He bought a place in Phelan a few months ago and while he was at work they cut through his chain link fence, busted out the roll up garage door window, and then pulled the release lever. The took the two bik...

I just did two of the brass ones for a bike I'm finishing up. Lapped them both with Mother's mag and aluminum polish and they both work perfectly. I also replaced the 4mm brass nut with a stainless nylock nut so that it stays where I want it set at. That and locktite on the threads to the handles an...

Matt,
Yep, weld em up and get them back out on the track. I figured that another day would be just fine to repair it properly.

DR, Thanks for posting the photos of the cap and foot pegs. I have my 71 93a that my parents had bought for me when I was a kid. It was used and from what I can tell it was raced before it was mine. Where the steering head meets the frame and gussets it is cracked (I'm assuming from being launched o...
