Re: Shock disassembly

Yeah Thanks, I tried to search it, but the system shoots back that "Rear Shocks" it too common and gives me no results, only reason I asked.

Shock disassembly

I am just wondering if there is a way to disassemble the rear shocks on a 75 road toad. I really need to get behind the springs to clean them up better and have not be able to figure out how to do it.

Re: Crankcase Screws

Ok, Thanks, I will put together an email and contact a few of those people. I am quickly discovering that the engine and carb are about out of my wheelhouse so I may just send it all of for a rebuild.

Re: Crankcase Screws

The crack is only in this half. It's strange, this motor has never been apart yet I can't find that piece. This is the position I took it apart in, the remnants of the bearing were still on the crank shaft, and the screws were full of mud as well. Someone would have put a lot of effort into re-cover...

Re: Crankcase Screws

Well the good news is that I got the case open, the bad new is that I think the case it toast. It looks like it chewed up part of this bearing

and that punched through the case In a place that was not visible...

Re: Crankcase Screws

No, I am thinking about getting an impact driver tomorrow, all I have used is a screwdriver, I am concerned that an air tool will do more damage...And I have considered using a hammer...but only out of frustration...

Crankcase Screws

So I am having an issue getting these to come out and I am wondering if I am missing something...these screws seem exceedingly soft to me, I'm not kidding when I say that I have stripped 2 of these by hand. On top of that the extractors that I have a just ripping these things apart, it is like I am ...

Road Toad heat shield

I'm just wondering if there is a good way yo remove the heat shield from the exhaust pipe. There is a fare amount of rust and dirt under it and I really need to clean it well before I paint it.

Painting Ethics

So I have a question about painting my road toad, and it really gets down to the ethics of the whole thing(I'm in an upper division philosophy class ant I think it is starting to bleed into the rest of my life, sorry). In the previous restoration jobs I did with my dad we always repainted to the ori...

Re: Road Toad Engine removle

Is the zucchini thing a metaphor, or are we being literal this time...you guys confuse me sometimes... :?

But I do have another question, what is the best way to handle refinishing the fenders? one is plastic and faded and one is metal and chipped, how hard is it to match the color of the two?

So far I have been having good luck with simple green and a brush. It is cutting through the grease really well, and my son can help.

Re: Road Toad Engine removle

Ah ok...I've never heard it put that way. I did manage to find the master link, the chain is now sitting in a degreaser bath...as is most of the bike...it's like it was half dipped in cosmoline.

Re: Road Toad Engine removle

Not sure what a cat skinning is. But if it is ripping the bike down to bare metal and rebuilding it from the ground up...then yeah. This bike is just coated in grease. Good thing bad thing...there is very little rust, but degreasing is going to take a bit.

Road Toad Engine removle

Ok I need some advice/help. I am getting to the point that i need to pull the engine off the frame, and I am a bit lost. I need to get the chain off the front sprocket, but I am not sure how to do that exactly. I have watched some videos(none for an RT). I really would like to avoid using a chain br...
