AHRMA legal ?

Has anyone ever used a Wombat frame for a 100cc class racer? Just wondering if ahrma allows it because of “like design”.

Re: Picked this up today

I had a piston ceramic coated by a Swain Tech Coatings to bring it back to an acceptable tolerance. They can add up to .004 to the skirt. I can not say how it has held up because I haven,t had that bike apart to check. It does have about ten motos on it and five practice sessions and still runs grea...

Kick shaft wear ?

It seems to me that it needs to be replaced, but thought I would ask in case it,s not as big of a deal as I think it is. I could smooth out the bad spots but it would leave a low spot. These two are the only bad spots.

Re: Tire Size Conversions

100/90 = 3.25/3.50 for the rear tire 80/100 = 3.00 for the front I looked through my notes that I,ve gathered from previous post and found this: Cheng Shin 4.10x18 C755 knobby is close in size to a 3.50 Duro 4.10x18 is close to a 3.50 Cheng Shin Barnum 3.50 S9A also fits the Hodakas well. Re: Main shaft case bushing removal

Very good to point out that you cannot just put the case on the bench if using the hydraulic method. I did at first, but had a look before I started and that part of the case was not touching. I did get it out,but I tried my 1/2 NF tap and it did work. I figured that if it didn’t I could then go to t...

Re: Main shaft case bushing removal

Maybe I will give the grease another try Ed. I did not have it completely full and only tried two good hits. I then chickened out for fear of wrecking the case. I did have it solidly supported on wood blocks. Victor,I,m curious how you did it with an easy out. Did you heat the case and then pull up ...

Main shaft case bushing removal

Has any one used a 1/2 tap and bolt instead of a 14mm to pull the main shaft bushing out of the case ? I can,t find a 14mm tap locally that has the same thread pitch as the locally found bolts so just looking at other options before I order one. I,m just a little worried that a 1/2 tap won’t cut dee...

Re: Never ending Ace trials project

Okay, I maybe need to do more investigative figuring before I post stuff. From what I can tell the tube on the right with no white spacer is from a first year 93,which would probably explain why it,s bent.

Re: Never ending Ace trials project

Went back out to take apart what I think are,maybe,92B forks and this is what I found. Three different lengths and one without the lower spacer. The two with the spacers were the ones on the wombat.

Re: Never ending Ace trials project

Okay, still trying to figure out the fork differences. Hodaka parts list new tubes that will work from the 92B+ 93,94,95 etc. all the way to the super combat. So they must be the same length as my longer one,but it says in order to use them with the 92B+,94,95 the lower white plastic spacer must be r...

Re: Never ending Ace trials project

Just though this might be of interest. Took apart the forks that came on my wombat that are different lengths just too see what the heck is going on. I was hoping that the longer one had been modded as dirty-rat had suggested, but this is not the case. Everything internally is the same as far as I ca...

Re: Mikuni VM20 replacement

In the photos on line there doesn’t, look like enough room to even get 5mm off each side, but hard to tell without having one in hand. So far,if you have a repairable stock carb, the best option is to get a rebuild kit from Hodaka Parts.
Here his a pic of the new 22mm with the 50mm spacing.

Re: Never ending Ace trials project

Jay, Thanks you for the tips/help. I really like the idea of pulling the wheel over with the spokes.I have a wombat project for another day so maybe I could also add the offset engine in that build. At the rate I,ve been going on the Ace the wombat is about 5 years off lol. I,m a big fan of all your...

Re: Mikuni VM20 replacement

There might be a flaw in my idea Al,I haven,t been able to find a spigot mount vm22,only flange mount so I,m not sure if they are available that small.
You could get an OKO in 19 or 22 size from mid Atlantic trials, but those may not be ahrma legal if that’s where you planned on riding.

Thanks Roger.

Well,as Matt stated,it can be pretty risky to start an engine of unknown history. I would say that I got real lucky not to have done more damage.

Re: Never ending Ace trials project

Lol Matt. I not to familiar with these motors yet so I had to have a look at the parts schematic to see what exactly that nut was connected to that sheared off and as all of you probably know it,s the flippin main shaft that broke...ouch! Any ideas what could cause that ? I would think that it shoul...

Re: Never ending Ace trials project

Another two steps back. I planned on taking it back apart to rebuild the bottom end,but decided to start it for the first time today just for an assecement of carb and homade exhaust. It ran and didn’t sound to bad,but has an air leak somewhere. The exhaust had a good sound and is pretty quiet. The ...

Re: Mikuni VM20 replacement

Just an idea of something that could be made that would enable the use of a modern carb, maybe like a vm22 on the Ace.

This is an adapter that I bought years ago to enable the same thing to be done to my Bultaco. I think it could work, but might not allow room for the stock air cleaner.

Re: 03 Wombat

Another thing that might work for your argument of eligibility is if the triple clamps are of “ like design”. Maybe that would be a stretch, but I know the big vintage club here,AHRMA, does allow some 75 machines and parts in the pre74 class if they are of like design.
