Re: Ace100 countershaft

Thanks Matt ! That is a nicely detailed walk through of what’s needed. Much appreciated !

Ed,I,m guessing that it is for an early model because my control shaft end diameter is 5mm,but I could be wrong on that being the determining factor.

Re: Different main shafts

It has come to my attention that my gear count on the 94 Wombat main shaft is incorrect. Bruce Young was kind enough to send me a spread sheet that another member made up with a gear count for the main and countershaft gears for each model. According to it,my Wombat has a Combat Wombat transmission....

Damper rod mod

Not a performance mod,but one to make it easier to hold with a big screw driver if the bottom Allen bolt is being stubborn.

Re: Main Shaft C Ring Tool???

Good call Bruce,I forgot there were two different tools. I would definitely buy one for the early models. I tried calling Terry but did not get through. I would guess they are pretty busy with all they,ve got going on right now so I will try again later. I,m going to try and make one,but I have seen...

Re: Ace100 countershaft

Matt, that would be awesome, thank you. I do try to avoid frustration and heartbreak at all cost. I pulled the control shaft back out today to check the too tight of fit into the bushing. No burrs so I did as the Captain said and did a teensie amount of polishing until I got a nice slip fit. One thing...

Re: Ace100 countershaft

Albert, your jig is a really good idea, thank you for sharing it. I think I just did not spend enough time getting the end of the air tool fitting countersunk enough to hold the c clip in place. Matt, I like the idea of the sawed off drift. I think I can maybe use that along with Alberts idea of the a...

Re: Different main shafts

Also,on the longer main shaft, the right end is a larger diameter and the shoulder on the output side isn’t,t as long and is notched.

Different main shafts

I thought a gear count might be of help if your looking for the right main shaft on flea bay or at a swap meet since the wombat and Ace main shafts look the same at a glance. Also,I have another main shaft that I picked up that is different from these two that I would like to identify. It,s the long...

Re: Ace100 countershaft

I looked up pics of that tool and yes, that is a must have tool. The tapered pin to guide the C clip is key to holding it in place. I will buy one if they ever come up for sale again. I made a jig similar to the one in the pic but I did not get the air tool fitting perfected to hold the C clip proper...

Re: Hodaka 125 super combat

Those are nice! I have seen the KLP swing arms and tanks on other bikes and they are works of art. Is Steve Mitchell the one who built the “Out Law “ Hodaka trials bike that I,ve seen pics of ?

Re: Hodaka 125 super combat

I agree Matt. Some people find a Hodaka to “flip” and see bikes like the two above SC and think “hey, mines worth that because it,s a Hodaka”without realizing what it takes to build one to that level. I know Icould spend a bunch of money building one and it still won’t be in the same league as one of...

Forgot to add that I did finally think to check the parts compatibility list on the HodakapartsIdaho site and you are correct, they are the same for those to engines.

Re: Ace100 countershaft

It was not what I would call an easy slip fit and it does not spin too easy. I did not think it was right and it,s good to have you confirm it. I did not go any further with the rebuild yet so it will come out for burr inspection and a polish.

Thank you !!

Re: 73 squirt

Most all of the 30mm forks will fit,but there are some differences. The ones that would be the same as yours will have fork caps that are the same diameter as the fork tubes. The older Ace100 had a larger fork cap with a washer. The forks for your Squirt should measure 28 3/4 from the center of the ...

Ace100 countershaft

I started to assemble my first ever Hodaka engine(Ace100) today. I used the countershaft from my Wombat because it was in better shape, but noticed it was a really snug fit into the right side case bushing. Looking at part numbers they are different, but the case bushing numbers are the same. So befor...

Re: burned up basket case

I was able to swap the lighting coil and use it for an ignition coil on my TY250 and Bultaco Sherpa T,but I think it may have been just dumb luck that it worked. A fellow on trials central with a lot more knowledge than me explained why.

Re: Next Project in the Hopper?

Looks like a nice starting point, but as I found out on my Ace, the DPO can cause the estimated repair bill to be a lot more than expected. I would do the CW now and save the Ace for your nephews summer break. Just don,t do what I do which is to get two or three going at once and then take forever to...

Quite the transformation in a short time, nice work ! What tires did you get that are too big ? Just asking so I know what not to order for my Ace.

Had to edit after looking at the pics again to comment on your shop, very nice.

Re: AHRMA legal ?

I,m waiting to hear back from the ahrma rules and eligibility committee to see if I can use my Wombat frame in the 100 class. He thought that it was a good question because it is basically the same as a Dirt Squirt. I would have liked to of just ran my Ace in 100cc cross country and I still might,bu...

Re: AHRMA legal ?

I thought about doing that Victor lol. A Toad would be the best bet,but they are few and far between in the Midwest and my Ace is eating up all of my bike project mad money. Forgot to add, thanks Brian for the info. If I find a cheap squirt frame that would be the easiest. I will contact ahrma and se...
