Thanks for the info Rich!--I found both cushioned and non on the large gear but small one 954001 doesn't seem to be available anywhere--I'll keep looking. I've got it on my wish list--
Again Thanks---

Re: Helical vs straight cut primary gears
Not only did I forget all my trig, I also forgot that the straight-cuts were made of steel---Reliability is most important. Now you have me looking for straight-cuts for my 94A vintage racer---Good call Rich!
Hmmm---Will any of the cushioned units fit my 94A?
Thanks, Max

Re: Helical vs straight cut primary gears
I forgot all I learned in trig a long time ago but my primitive calculations show the straight-cuts have about 90% of mesh area compared to the helical ones but as they say in racing --Ever little bit helps and it all adds up. I dropped out of the Vector Mechanics class so I won't be computing the s...

Re: MODS FROM THE PAST
Hey Clarence, thanks for explaining the theory of extended fork heads. Sounds as if we lived in parallel universes--the first 90 modified continuously to the hilt for years of dominant racing fun. My muti-purpose 90 $lowly evolved into a dedicated Short-tracker and with the arrival of the 93 Super R...

Re: MODS FROM THE PAST
Seriously KC, I've never seen that modification in all my years and types of racing. Tell us more about the supposed advantages of this mod (besides lengthening the wheelbase) if you can. Clarence--any input on this? Just curious--I thought I'd tried everything!

Diamond Dons Vintage MX
Who all is going to be at Diamond Dons vintage AHRMA event in Jefferson Texas on April 16--19? Have any of you raced there before and what is the course like? (I'm getting allergic to rocks and mud in my old age.) I'm only 4 hours from there--might race (just one more time) or Eweleen and I might co...

Re: MODS FROM THE PAST
Now that we've had big fun with your new find KC, can we see the other side? (more pixs)-- Seriously--I'm always amazed at the number of mods that were made to early Hodakas--Probably no motorcycle in history had as many after-market parts available (Think Webco, Bassani etc.) over a period of years...

Re: Max bore 125 combat wombat?
Hey Clarence, This is kinda funny but I have this old Wiesco Piston on my desk as a paper weight. (From 40+ years ago – 100cc). It does look like it's a .090 over. Mine still has the decimal showing it to be a .060. It appears to be stamped on the wrong side of the crown. You're off the hook! Maxie ...

Re: sealing engine cases
Hey AZ--A little more on raising and lowering the cylinder. When brainstorming how to make a two-stroke go faster one thinks of raising port height--why not just raise the cylinder? Of course the piston will never reach the top causing loss of compression. Despite all this about the time 125 Hodakas...

Re: sealing engine cases
Nice tech piece AZ. Not only that, removing the base gasket changes the piston port timing by that much. Closing the exhaust port early adds even more compression--It all adds up. Good job.

Re: Best way to redo plastics
You might check out the previous post "Wombat 94A Rims" in December 14. We discussed the painting plastic with Krylon paint for plastic. It wasn't perfect by any means but it does work and seems to be durable. There are some before and after shots. I agree with Richard that new might be th...

Re: Counter shaft oil leak
Sounds like you are set--the O-ring on the control shaft rarely fails--save it and install it with new shifter springs when the time comes. As for the oil I use Mobil 1 synthetic Racing 4T 10W-40 in everything with a wet clutch. I'm sure the Guys (and Gals) will have some other excellent choices. la...
