Re: Exhaust nut on 68 Ace
After re-evaluating my methods and after finally locating my GIANT water pump pliers (17 inches long), I decided to finish this photo sequence and immediately noticed that the pliers contact 4 studs vs only 1 stud on the other 2 methods. I think this is the way to go!

Re: Combat Wombat air boot: reed valve
Hi Brian--I had the same situation on my 94A. Paul had some different lengths he let me try. One was close but I still had to move the air cleaner back about 1.5 inches. Anyway check with Paul--Seems like he even sent me some measurements first. Later--

Re: Project completed - finally
Hey Gang, here's the tool. Slide the collar down the taper pin over the clip and the whole thing is pushed on by the tool. Incredibly easy. I wonder if Paul has some of these for sale? If not AZ, you could probably manufacture one. By the way the large end of the taper pin is cupped which you can't ...

Re: Exhaust nut on 68 Ace
Not a stupid question, they can be contrary---Try this. If you don't have the tools pictured (which require a hammer), you can loosen the nut with a driver of sorts as shown. Heat, penetrating oil, all help. Sometimes you can break it loose with GIANT water pump pliers. All kind of crude, but it wor...

Re: Watch that breather vent!
Another use for all these hoses was simply to mystify and worry all your competition. In reality, probably all they provided was an exit for condensates and heating and cooling pressure changes but they did look cool! We called it "Other secret stuff". 8-) I think I'm giving out classified...

You'll probably get a lot of opinions on this but I use Yamalube 2R for the mix (32:1) and Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 Synthetic in the transmissions of my Hodakas, KLR-650, Yamaha XS-650 and the farm Yamaha 4 wheeler. Don't use any automotive oils particularly those marked "Energy Conserving"...

Re: Watch that breather vent!
Here's my input. Harry Taylor thought that this was needed to cool the transmission. The breather fitting was drilled out and a hose installed, as was on the oil check access. A filter was installed on the end of the hoses. Think about it. The transmission under stress had no way to vent the heat. A...

Question--does the powder coating process get hot enough to damage the rubber swing-arm bushings? Those are not easy to remove as many of you know.

The more I look at this, there might be enough room for liquid cooling. Any external faucets?--OK, my guess is liquid cooling. (I've been wrong before!)

Re: Day One - New Project
I think it's 2-stroke oil--the crankcase seal below it is shredded although it does appear to be some life form. Probably some of both. Another life mystery. But Hey!--good news, the crank appears to be usable as is and so does the crankcase and inner parts (except seals and bearings of course). On ...

Thanks Bob, I'll check with Paul on the 93 cylinder tomorrow. Check a little closer on the cylinder picture above. I'm surprised nobody commented about the bolt shortening devices on the kick starter or the unique but klunky clutch disc spacer replacing all part #s 90402502,3,5 in one unit. ;) Mac, ...

Another great idea! Or, along those lines a cute little road racer with CR tranny and all of the above for track day. You're dragging me off the path again! I've even considered building it as it was in that era---you know, pipe, reed, head and all of that pre Super Rat stuff. We all had one l...
