Re: Taber Hodaka AWOL?
Hey Clarence, what's the story on the Van Tech forks? Not like I need another project but are they for sale or could they be used for Max's Christmas present? Hope you are doing well, big fun seeing you and meeting your daughter at the last Hodaka Days. Stay in touch, The Old Man should traveling th...

Re: Earles/leading link vs telescopic/OEM fork weight
When the new Model 93 Super Rats arrived at the shop, we took the first crate of two for the Shop's Moto-cross effort. I rode one. The early fork tubes proved to be weak and were quickly replaced by warranty but we had already panicked and replaced both sets with VanTech leading link forks and 21&qu...

Re: Earles/leading link vs telescopic/OEM fork weight
Good question. Leading link forks look heavier than stock conventional forks and I always assumed they were. This all dependent on several factors but generally the leading link replacement is about the same weight or even lighter than the originals. It would be interesting to weigh some examples. N...

Re: Case Reed 125 Hodaka Project
I did find pictures but not the discussion on this subject. As I remember both Wiseco and Harry Taylor in the day did not consider this a problem. Although this looks scary the rod is always centered with needles on the rod and all seems to be self centering. I ran the set-up on the right with no pr...

Re: Case Reed 125 Hodaka Project
This was discussed quite a while back about about extra space on the pin between the piston boss and upper rod bearing boss. I don't think there is anything to worry about in this case as the rod seems to self center on the pin. Maybe the Gang will have some more input on this. Meanwhile I'll try to...

Re: Ace 90-100 Rods
Ace 90s came with a bushing upper end. Before the Ace 100s a 91 prefix rod or R rod was offered with a upper needle bearing. It came as a kit as I remember and my Ace 90 soon had one. The 91 "R" rod became the standard for the Ace 100. Everything is interchangeable. 912710R rod still has t...

Thanks Joe, I think we have come to a consensus also on the Hodaka Fan Club. .001-.002" with about .0012" ideal and .002" maximum.

Installing Needle Bearings in 92 Cases
Any opinions on what the interference clearance should be on this procedure? Minus .001 as I remember (Or don't remember) to get a nice press fit....Maxie

Re: The 2 the Max Project
Brad, I don't have any stock bikes to measure to check on stock length for your model. Stock length is usually optimum. Cut you a 12'' brace and mount it to check to see how it sets and clearances. Meanwhile maybe someone will come up with some stock measurements. If not I probably have some old sho...

Re: The 2 the Max Project
Brad, you need to measure shock length, not distance from frame to swing arm holes. Fourteen inches would be the maximum down travel of the swing arm and about nine inches minimum travel without the shock installed. Shock length should be somewhere in the middle like near twelve inches.

Re: The 2 the Max Project
Hey Brad, I've got a set of RFY 340mm on a trail bike project but I haven't really put them to the severe test. OK is all I can say for now. Another set on this project, 320mm, unused so far. Somewhere on the Forum we discussed these and there is a guy who services these shocks and can set them up p...

Re: The 2 the Max Project
Hey Victor. Nothing scientific here. I marked where to match the bigger manifold with the cylinder opening and cut straight in and tried to blend all of this together. The width as it enters the cylinder has not been enlarged. The passage to the opening has been enlarged quite a bit to match the big...

Clarence my friend, Get well soon! Have you tried any of that "MAX" stuff. It doesn't grow hair at least on me but it does cure some ills. They say. Sometimes. Maybe.
