Clarence, the only thing I remember about square motors were the Maico Square blocks and there was a Yamaha YZ 400 square block. Those motors had basically square or cube shaped cylinders, possibly to keep the fins from sticking out too far from the frame. That’s the extent of what I can recall about square motors. :ugeek: Victor

A "square" engine has the same bore and stroke. As in 50mm bore and 50mm stroke.

There is another answer which is not so "Hodaka-ish" ---- but I won't go there for a bit. Waiting to see if I described the "square" Clarence asked about. ;)

Ed your answer is the one I was looking for. I think it has something to do with our age (my age)? To us of the past, a long stroke engine is going to be a slow rpm engine with a lot of torque, boom, boom, boom. A short stroke engine is not going to have allot of torque but will be a screamer. In the day the hodaka engine being square was a plus for me. The rule of thumb in the old days was to set your points to the thickness of a tobacco can and set the plugs to a thin dime, silver dimes wore the faces off. also if you set the points at 12 set the plugs at 24. just a old time rule of thumb. ---- Clarence

Hodaka painted with a electrostatic process. How did hodaka cure the painted items and what did they call the color of the paint they used from 1964 to about 1973? --Clarence

Let's see... there are 6 pages with let's say 25 posts per page, that means there are 150 posts. If you divide the 41,000 visits by 150, it means that on average each post was read 273 times. Seems a little high considering the small group that we have.

The first big change was in the ace 90 MK || production. I call the first ace 90's, prototypes that's just me. Changes went into effect after frame 231. Chuck Swanson the parts and service managers bulletin 111 came out after the MK || ace 90. Changed were the complete front end including front fender, handlebars and holder. Other changes included the frame, rear shocks, rear axle, and the license plate bracket, .At this time the motor stayed the same . ------ Clarence
