Crank Soup

Post by Forrest »

94 Wombat Top end rebuild.

So I got my fresh bore and Piston from Danny Messmore, and my parts from Paul (forgot to order ignition key) and I was getting ready to put on the cylinder. The area just below the cylinder on the cases looked a bit dirty so I cleaned it up well with some towels blocking the gunk from going into the crank. Now what I find is a "soup" of old lubricants and such down there, not really dirty, brownish thin oil. I have been wicking it out and I'm wondering if this is a problem or if it will get sucked out the exhaust port magically.

Post a picture of your gunnnnnnk. Hopefully its not leakage from a poor seal on the right, If I took the top end off I would of just split the cases and did the whole thing. Would of took about 2 hr max, replace seals and bearings.

It is pretty much gone now, it was clean, thin brownish oil, most likely a mix of gas/oil and lubes I used when pulling it apart (was seized) I'll blow it out with some air.
