Kells , putting theory asside , Does it really make sense for me to do all this work and send it out ( without wanting any money until Doug could afford to pay ) ? Pretty stupid on my part if this was not a proven method, dont you think. I am not here to experiment on people and just suck out thier wallet..

Doug, It not right that you blast me here and go to an outside source without working with me to help you. If I have an issure with a product I and most people will go to the source to figure it out. Thats thats right thing to do. I just wanted to help you so I did all in good faith not requiring anythin from you , I didnt even ask for money to cover shipping or for the reeds , thats out of my pocket . Who else would do that . ? This morning i called you and asked you to call ne and update me with what you have done , and you didnt ! Not right! WEll I want to please you and I will send you a new enduro cross cylinder if you send me yours, I dont have cases though. Thats all I can do since you wont work with me . This isnt the place to work out this stuff but I guess its the way you prefere to. Let me know . Preferably by phone call.

You asked me a question or 2 so I will gladly answer.. Keep in mind I have no dog in this fight.. I am just a person who understands 2 stroke engines and am a friend of Doug's.. There is no witch hunting going on here.. But Doug has been planning on this trip for since last year.

He rode over 5,000 (not a typo) miles last year alone on this 125. So, having an engine that can "go the distance" is "KEY" for a bike that is used as a daily driver..

It appears that you did your MX race porting on a road bike.. Why would you do an MX port on a street bike?

No, it does not make sense ( I am answering your question above).. So, I am asking you.. WHY?

Also above, you tell us that you have no experience with the exhaust system the is on Doug's bike. Well, the exhaust is critcal and directly related to the porting.. So, when you say you are not experimenting on engines... What would you call porting an engine for an exhaust that you have no experience with? ? I would call it experimenting.

As for going to an outside source for help..... Doug tried what you asked and it did not work.. You, by your own admission, did NOT know why it would not run properly.. So, IMO, this means it is time to go to another "source" in order to find some answers.. If it were me, I would have drove the 3 hours up to Doug's and fixed it for him... but that was never offered.

In any case, it is what it is.. there is less than 3 weeks until Hodaka days and the bike needs to make it about 2500-3000 miles round trip.. With your mods the bike was 100% un-rideable.. Meaning it could not make the trip to Hodaka Days.

The bike is now running well.. We will not get into what needed to be changed to make it run well, but I , for one, am happy to know that Doug will be able to make the trip.

Here is an idea... Just throwing it out there... Why don't you or one of your customers come to the Hodaka Days with a 125 with this same porting and case work done to it AND running on 91 octane.

Then you can meet up with Doug and you can show him how well it runs. Maybe even do a little comparison to his bike??? I think that would put a lot of this to rest.

Again, I have no dog in this fight.. I am just helping a friend be able to make a trip he dreams about.. This is nothing personal, just that time is running out and the mods provided simply did not perform as advertised.

For a guy with no dog in this fight I hear an awful lot of growling going on. Why not leave this between customer and supplier. You wouldn't want your laundry hung out here, like your websites endless tech pieces that say nothing technical. So just let it be.

You are new to the forum (I see you joined May 11) so you may not know how things operate here. If you click on recerclam's name there is an option where you can send him personal messages. This forum was set up by Strictly Hodaka for folks to ask questions and get help from others that may know the answer to some problem they are having. It is supposed to be a fun thing for the enjoyment of all. You have turned it into "beat up on Rich" and slam his work to all the rest of us. Rich has been in performance work all his adult life and for you to make comments to his comments like "With all due respect.. This is simply not true" is over the top. ! am not sure what the problem is with this particular cylinder but it is time for you and Doug to settle this in private with Rich. With all due respect, this is not the way to get business for RK-Tec.

Thank you for your on point comments. It is way past time to take this discussion off this public forum. It has not reflected well on any of the parties involved and I for one am sick of it! It is not in the interest of Hodaka fans to get involved in one case of sour grapes.

Just to be clear.. I am NOT on here to drum up business for my shop!! Where does that idea come from??

There has been ZERO solicitation and I offer no Hodaka products whatsoever.

I was asked to come check this forum out and have done so. I was hoping to find some good chat about engines and vintage bikes since I am into both of those.

I do find it odd that many on here are not open to "other" opinions and that factual information regarding ANY product is not welcome if it does not post favorably to a vendor you have used in the past..

Telling other forum members that any product is a good product just because you are friends with the vendor is simply not fair to the reader or consumer.

I really do not see where anybody is beating up on Rich.. There has been no slamming or personal attacks against him or anybody else via my posting.. Just factual information about how his product functioned in the real world... Not sure how that get translated into "bashing"??? The truth is the truth.. Sometimes, the truth hurts... We all know that.

Forums are about information exchange.. This thread would have been a good example of information exchange. Any and all information should be read with an open mind.

Trying to "read" into anybody's writing..... content that is not there .....appears to be the norm for public forums.

This is unfortunate for sure.

Even if you won't say what changes were made to get the bike running well, can we assume it wasn't a new cylinder or changes to the port work already done?

Is Kelsey RK tec? Fluted heads ? I'm sure Apprillia engineer Jens Thiel would have done that if it worked. Sounds like someone with their nose out of place. There are as many different theory's of how to tune a bike as there are tuners and everyone of them thinks the other is wrong . Even I tried to beat the Hodaka engineers by stupidly grooving my pristeen 97 head just because I read about some Indian guy performing magic. How easy would it have been for Kel Carrithers to take to king Kennys TZ heads with a file.
I know Rich and the dude would do all what he can to help for sure so enough to with the character assassination please !

Kelsey is the "K" in RK if I understand his website correctly. I find most of this thread offensive in tone at least from one person, and lacking in content. So far no one has offered a technical rebuttal on why the porting in question either can't work, won't work, or is limited to the MX world, and now it seems that it is working --how well or why hasn't been explained. Perhaps because no one really knows or are embarrassed to say. All I see here are opinions, not tech. I am sure there is a reason for that. Even my own comments were opinion, but we're only offered as such, and not claimed as "facts."

Since I can't lock this thread, I figure I will just stop reading it.

I love this forum because of its' "we're a family" attitude. I monitor other forums where this kind of conduct is the norm, but not here.

I know Rich, and know he is a stand up guy. He knows his stuff. He has been in the go fast business his whole life. If there is a problem, he will make it right.

I think that Doug responded out of frustration and that Kelsey is a troll and should be banned or at least ignored.

I agree with A Z, I think this whole thread needs to be deleted.
