03 Wombat Injection Pump

Post by ncwLoren »

I have an 03 Wombat that I rebuilt, but it has a problem. It runs well using the oil injection system, and I have put @200 miles on it using straight gas. The pump is therefore pumping oil. But, It leaks oil out of the metering shaft (?). Enough to leave a pool on the ground overnight. Hodaka parts does not show that they have any when I look it up on the schematic and a Road Toad pump won't work because the 03 has 2 outlet lines. One to the reed intake and one to the left crank bearing. I've made a couple of calls and have not been able to find another one. I would like to keep the injection system. Are there any pumps out there that someone would be willing to make a deal on ? Hope the pics worked. My daughter and I Hodaka Days 2023 and the bike in question.

Someone will have one. I have several Road Toad but no 03 Wombat pumps.
Check with Terry by phone once he is back in the office. His schedule is posted on his website (www.hodaka-parts.com).

I'm wondering about whether or not the actuation shaft has an O-ring which might be replaceable. Though you may be more comfortable with a working spare on hand BEFORE disassembling the pump. My decades old memories of the innards of that pump just don't provide enough detail . . . but I DO remember them as being 1) very simple mechanical items which are easy to open up and reassemble, which 2) always operate in a clean oil bath which should be good for loooooonnnnng life - at least that is the design intent. 3) I'm gonna be digging an 03 engine out of the "inventory pile" in the next week or so to peek at something else. I'll try to remember to also look at the oil pump.

Thanks Ed. The horse has left the barn as I already have removed it. Before I did so I submerged the whole thing in a tub of water and blew air through the oil intake line and bubbles erupted from behind the metering shaft. ( not sure if that's what its called ). Removed the pump from side case and am not able to pull the shaft out, so I can't tell if theres an O ring or not. At any rate doing some more research it looks like an early 70s suzuki, TS185 or TS250 may use the same pump. This is half the fun right ? Looking for 50 year old parts. HaHa

If you are still looking I have one. It was in a salvaged bike so I'm not sure of it's condition, but if you need it, it's your's for the postage.

You can have the whole assembly as pictured, or I can remove the pump and send you just the pump. Let me know.

We all like pictures, so here is a follow up to my oil pump topic. The pictures are of the pump that is leaking injector oil. I didn't take the pump fully apart as I just wanted to get the cam shaft out. In order to do this the bottom plate has to be removed and then the cylinder and spring as well. Then the cam comes straight out without having to remove the cable return spring or the part that cable connects to. I did find a rubber O ring as you can see, and I suspect that is where the leak originates. After some googling I found that partzilla lists and has parts for injector pumps from the 70s. So I took a chance and ordered an expensive o ring to test my theory. I would like to thank Dirty Rat for going out of his way to ship a replacement pump from Florida to Washington state. Thanks again !
