Combat wombat piston

Post by Jammied »

Anyone know where I might find a .060 over piston for a combat wombat? I'm assuming it is .060 over it has a 06 on the top and also cs over to the side and away from the 06. It is stamped 06 no . Or .060 so not sure what it is and didn't have my mic with me

Thanks for any help

What is stamped with "06" the cylinder or the piston?
If it is the piston, then it should be a .060 piston. But, if the cylinder is already worn, another .060 piston probably would be too lose in the bore.
If it is the cylinder, that stamped number has nothing to do with oversize pistons, it was used by the factory when originally assembling the engines.

It is the piston stamped 06 thought it kind of strange it wouldn't be marked .060 but I will measure it today

Image here are some pictures of the piston. After measuring it is .060. So now on the hunt for a .080 piston or a cylinder

.060 would be fine for the cylinder but I don't want to reuse this piston. I believe it to be a wiseco

You may have stumbled onto something here. The Wiseco 228 piston is a fit for the Yamaha 125 AT-1 Enduro. Yours is definitely stamped 228. I wonder if the two pistons are interchangeable between the Yamaha and the Hodaka.

Ivan,
The AT-1 used a 16mm piston pin and the Hodaka's used a 15mm pin. I don't think they are interchangable. Possibly Wiseco used the same casting to make the blanks and then machined them for the specific bike.

Jammied,
You can always check to see if the cylinder could be plated to bring it back to at least .040 oversize. Once plated, the cylinder usually last much longer that just an iron liner (as long as nothing foreigh gets in there).

I might try that . Thanks. I'm sure if some searched through wrist pin bearings there is probably one that would adapt a yamaha piston to work

If the piston is in spec, get it vapor blasted and put new ring on it and use it.
