Throttle Bar

Post by viclioce »

Question about the throttle bar in the VM20 carb. I’m including 2 photos. One is a new one from Terry’s website, & the other is one which appears to be worn in the middle.

It almost looks to me, when I zoom in on the pic, that a “waist” of sorts has been worn into the throttle bar.

Alan has already tried replacing the cable, the throttle assembly and replaced the carb with a second, configured identically. A slide, not on the cable and throttle bar, has no issues moving freely up & down in the carb.

Does it seem there’s enough wear in the center of this throttle bar to cause an uneven drop of the slide, causing it to hang? That seems to be the only conclusion I can draw.

So, what say you? :ugeek: Victor

Victor, I think the wear could make the slide hang up for a moment or two, particularly if it were paired with a new throttle adjuster PN VM2009. It might even cause some slight, irregular running in that range of throttle, unless the rubber cap was fitted, as it would let in unmetered air as well. Personally, I'd replace it and the throttle adjuster (VM2009) as a matter of course and for peace of mind.

Bev. Interesting comments. The slide would hang wide open. At first it would work normally, but sooner or later, while riding, the throttle would hang wide open one bet stuck.

I told Alan to replace the throttle bar. He was going to order a new one (or 2) today. This is a s on a rebuilt Ace 100. :ugeek: Victor
