250ED rear shocks
250ED rear shocks
Anyone have a recommendation for someone who can rebuild the rear shocks for my 250ED? They don't need any chrome work or polishing. Damper valves and shaft seals should do it.
Thanks, Bob V.

Re: 250ED rear shocks
I can summarize the work of Hodaka Dave Rozier (Hodaka Dave's Vintage Service) in one word - superb.
Re: 250ED rear shocks
Thanks for the Hodaka Dave recomendation matt, I will contact him.
Small world Victor, I was born in Paterson as well. Do you remember the Hodaka dealer in Hawthorne that also sold Datsuns, Alphas and Lotus? That's where I bought my first Hodaka. (O'Brien's Datsun). A 100B+ then a SR.

Like I said, I left Paterson when I was 4 years old. I remember the Paterson Bakery, St. Anthony’s and the drug store. That’s about it. I agree with Matt on the Hodaka Dave recommendation! Here is Dave Rosier’s phone number : (573) 834-5001 Victor

Re: 250ED rear shocks
If you are a member of the Hodaka Club, I wrote an article on how to rebuild the shocks from a model 97/98 Super Combat/Super Rat. The shocks are basically the same as the 250ED shocks, so the rebuild should be the same. The article is in the last issue of the Resonator Revisited.
Re: 250ED rear shocks
Thanks David, that info is just what I needed. I ordered 2 kits and will report back with the results.

Re: 250ED rear shocks
Reporting in on the rebuild.
Dave's article in the Resonator provided the part number and vendor for everything I needed to rebuild the shocks. The 8 1/4" length kit is no longer available but the 8 inch one did provide enough pieces to complete the job. I used the rubber jounce bumper, the entire screw in cap-wiper-seal assembly, top o-ring and a few assorted valve discs. All for $8 per shock. Dave noted that the kit damper valve is a larger size and won't fit in our KYB damper tube but mine was quite serviceable with the use of some of the new valve discs. I also used 100cc of ATF to fill the shock. Just keep in mind the valve stack up consists of quite a few pieces so you should pay close attention when you disassemble the valves.
