They ran and worked. I’m not a racer. It’s for a build of 71’ SR on the net. Know there are a few. I have a std bore 123cc piston that a guy needs but my cylinder needs cleaned and 0.010 one

I know a guy in Prescott AZ who uses one. He reports there are still some available out there at steep prices.

However, it’s been indicated to me that a Super Rat with reed valve added can be faster than a unit with a Webco 125 kit on it.

It’s a lot of work, a lot of money & not really worth the effort unless you have a special reason for wanting it. Just my 2 cents, for what it’s worth. :ugeek: Victor

Yes, I wouldn't be seeking a specific piston for an otherwise complete top end for a stated replica build because its a good use of time. Only If anyone out there has one or may know some leads, then PM me as per the original post. Thanks in advance.

I have never known anybody that was able to use one to any advantage. Also there is a document out there that explained why they just didn't work for most people. But they look cool, bigger cooling fins on the cylinder and head. I think there is a head on ebay now. -------------- Clarence

Leading link front end, Swenco swinging arm, Clarke tank, Webco head and big bore jug, Gem reed block. You're an ambitions guy, Dan. Best of luck.

JW’s article says Clarke tank but they looked at pic and said not do that one. Maybe staff changed over but not seen another Hodaka w/ that tank. Some say CZ sidewinder. Other than piston, Tank is only part not in hand.
Trivia question: what is this tank and who has one can sell?

Dan, I hope you find what you need to complete the build. See photo with arrows added to points of interest (at least for me). The arrow at the back end points to what sure looks like an "extended saddle" such as seen on lots of alloy tanks. And not many plastic tanks used a front mount like that. Also, it sure looks like the tank has a mighty high "cut-out/saddle at the front - like it was made for a frame with a much "steeper" backbone tube. Finally, I just can't tell from the photo whether that is a screw-on or twist-and-latch type of cap . . . or a hinged cap. Lots of alloy tanks had twist-and-latch or hinged tanks. (Hoping these comments trigger some memories from other members.)

Thanks Captain. Owner’s article says “ The chrome toaster gas tank was swapped out for a smaller fiberglass unit (borrowed from my CZ— and it had been a replacement for my CZ's steel tank).”
Front tank mounting tabs eliminates nearly all aftermarket tanks seen. They bolt from top. The profile and RH filler offset eliminate others seen. Boot even been a close 2nd. Thx much

Clarence,
Harry won Evel Knievel's race at Snake River (1973??) on a Super Rat with the Webco 125cc kit. He not only won the race but also won a Honda car which he then sold to Leon Wilbanks from PABATCO. Harry took the money and paid for the adoption of Harry and Patty's daughter Holly. Anyway HT thought at the time the Webco 125cc kit was pretty good :-)
Stay safe

If anyone could bring out the best of a engine it was Harry, he could tune a 650 triumph carburetor to function on a ace 100. ---------------- Clarence

Well, tank mystery solved. I posted and picked brains for a good 6+ mos. Sometimes, you have to go to the 'source' and Jody was very responsive and helpful. Its was a Cycle Craft tank and found one in NY. I'm torn a bit as it yellow, as his backup Super Rat so have to paint. He did 3 generation of his primary bike, mixing shocks, top end and plastics. Not going to race it, so will stay with the original generation, mostly.

Dan. You might check with Rich Gagnon (sp?), at Rich’s Taylored Porting to see if he has any of these pistons. Here’s his contact info! :ugeek: Victor

Greg McClintock

I know he has a Super Rat with a Webco 125 set up! Tell him Victor from the Hodaka forum said to ask you. Just remove the spaces & brackets on the address. :ugeek: Victor

They did run strong for a short amount of time for me anyway and for the others I sold, we remember them well. They just weren't the dependable race bikes our hodaka was. I do not remember a history of wins, not just a race but a winning season. I have articles written about them with the pros and cons. I think I still have a 100 setup around here somewhere, they do look cool. ------ Clarence

I know we are talking about Webco. That’s why I referred him to these two folks. Rich has a lot of pistons. I even found an Art Road Toad piston & rings from Rich! And Greg has a Webco 125 kit on his Super Rat. So he may have extra pistons. Better than offering no sources/suggestions at all, don’t you think? :ugeek: Victor

Thanks everyone. So, when guy in SD are flaked selling 0.20 over and 0.10, I had cylinder nikiseal’d and using std Webco piston. BTW, owner of pistons had someone bore and install both for Zundapp rickman frame bike so machining can be done.
Gordon in NC needs a std Webco piston and I was gonna sell him mine if the guy sold his .10 one. So there is a complete top end for build underway if a std piston is around.
Jody couldn’t recall plastics on 1st generation SR, seem like Husky (not P Petty). His 3rd generation had Maico plastics and like its look to.
