Rickman

Post by Vintagenut »

Does anyone have an estimate as to how many Rickman Hodakas are in existence? I know there were 412 built, but I wonder how many survivors are out there. I had to buy the huge and expensive Rickman book just to decipher the frame number. Very odd numbering system.

I don't know and also wonder how many, and mine has been a dormant project for a while. But for the count, I have number 3-70.120H1. I think that translates to number 120, from March 1970.

Mine is actually 870-727H12. Which translates to number 302.

I would say your bike is number 16 according to the Rickman book. The numbers were mixed in with the Zundapps.

Forgive my ignorance, please. What book has the Rickman information? Thanks very much.

Hello Vintagenut,
I have a 1974 Rickman-Zundapp Enduro. Would you mind looking up the data plate number for me?
Date 1/74 No. 1085 4Z. It has a MX engine (must have been changed).
That is a beautiful Rickman you have. I remember seeing one at a Hodaka dealer in Oklahoma city in about 1970.

I will check it out. This book has every Rickman frame number and where it was shipped. Thanks for the compliment.

Vintagenut,
I guess the only thing I knew about my Rickman number was the following Z which I presumed was for the Zundapp engine. It has a similar shifting mechanism as the Hodaka engine. Thanks for checking. Sterling
