Super rat left case half needed
I need a left case half for a model 93 motor. This one has structural damage from a broken roller retainer that will be hard to repair. Will consider case half, case set, or sell the parts I have.

Dan, are there differences in the SR vs Ace 100 case halves (other than the needle bearings on the SR motor) that are unobtainable unless one has mad machinist skills? When you get a minute, could you post a picture of the damaged left case half? That might spur me into replacing the sacked out kick roller retainer on my DS.

I’ll get pics tomorrow. If your roller retainer is suspect at any level replace and upgrade is the way to go. And as far as I can tell the needle bearing is the only difference in the case halves. I have a couple of ace halves I could use but would like to keep it correct.

I hear you - on both counts. I will look through my case halves.

Re: Super rat left case half needed
pushed the area where the kick start shaft sets out. And the post is gone which is less of a deal.

Ouch! That would be hellish to repair. Is that the proper PN (921001-01) for the SR-specific case half?

I believe that is a standard casting number, but check your stash to confirm.

Re: Super rat left case half needed
Long on buildable Ace 100 cases. No SR yet. I have one other place to check. Have you tried to contact Hodaka Dave directly yet?
Re: Super rat left case half needed
Aren’t the left cases the same whether Ace or Model 93x Super Rat? There aren’t any differing part numbers, are there? Isn’t only the tight case stamped with a number? Or do the left cases have a 92xxxx part number vs. a 93xxxx part number? Please edjumacate me! Victor

The casting numbers I believe are the same. Ace shafts run in bushings, rat shafts run in needle bearings.

Maybe the roller caused some trouble for them.
One other idea: the Ace Case MAY be able to be bored to accept the roller bearing. A tricky job, but if the right target diameter was known it could be done.
I'd try if for free. But only if I'm held harmless if I blow it.
I'd want the bearing and the shaft along with the case.

That is what I remember and I think there is a number difference, but I don't think it is a 93 number. If I find a second it would be easy to look up, -------------Clarence
Re: Super rat left case half needed
I’ve built 3 Super Rats and have another in a box waiting for me. I’ve also seen many cases. what I found is that only the early SR’s used a roller bearing on the main shaft. Interestingly, it seems these early cases were the first to have the large cylinder deck. Later SR’s reverted to a bushing. The 98’s I’ve seen also used a bushing. all SR’s had roller bearing on the right half, (counter shaft).,
Only my very early 93 had the roller bearing for the main shaft.
I have also had to replace a 93A case half and found the the correct match came from 92B+ or the 96. These engines had the large cylinder deck with bushing for the main shaft. Interestingly, I have an F-code case that is also setup with bushing on the main shaft
If you have a 93A or 93B with roller bearing on the main shaft, more than likely the main shaft boss was bored to accept a roller bearing by a PO.

Re: Super rat left case half needed
this one the motor number says it’s 93a, but it does have the needle bearing for the main shaft. Theoretically I could use a Ace case half as long as the decks are the same? ( big deck/ small deck)
Re: Super rat left case half needed
Interesting, perhaps ALL 93's and early 93A's used the roller bearing? I think Clarence or Max would know for sure.
But I think you would still be within period correct if you used a case half with a main shaft bushing as long as your decks matched.
If you're not in a hurry, I may have the case half you need. It came off the 93A "SR-in-a-box" I have that needs a replacement engine. Both the main shaft and counter shaft bearing bosses are completely shot on the right side half. The main shaft boss is worn right down to the snap ring. But the left half is OK, (if I remember right). In my search, I've found an F-Code engine last year at HD, and a P-code, (model 96?) case with the roller bearing for the counter shaft on eBay. But I've been holding out for cases with a serial # close to what I have. So I have an F-Code case, a set of 96? cases, and the original 93A case. Let me double check them that they are all the same. If so, I have what you need.

Re: Super rat left case half needed
Part way through 1970 the Model 93 changed to a Bushing. Any ACE100 Case will work. As we all know, they made a small and large flange( Where the Base Gasket seals). In 1971 they Cast both styles at the same time. Any 1967 to 1971 Small Flange will work: It`s the same Case. Plentiful on EBAY. Fairly simple: 1969 and early 1970 Super Rats had a Needle Bearing in the Left Side Center Case. Some 1970, 1971 and 1972 came with a Bushing. At least you didn`t split the Right side Center Case in 2 parts like I did in the past. Joe.

To clarify: Some 1970 Super Rats had a Bushing in the Left Side Center Case: 1971 and 1972 Super Rats had a Bushing. Joe.
