Motor choice

Post by pfleming29 »

If you had a choice between a super rat or a road toad motor. Which motor has the most potential for mx racing. If course modifying it.

Thank you

interesting question.A late model (alumiferric) Super rat engine would surely be the best. If comparing cast iron 100cc cylinders would think Super rat would have a more MX peakier high exhaust port type set up but only guessing.Look forward to people that know chiming in on this

Well I would think the fact the name Super Rat and not Road Rat would be the first clue. One bike was made for racing and the other was not.

the Rat engine would be best, the only cylinder difference is the rat has a 3mm higher exaust port , but the toad has mor flexability because of its stating point. But same potential . The toad has a wide ratio trans the rat close ratio. Toad has primary kick thst enables starting with clutch pullid in. BUT! has a weaker primary gears and no option to use cushion straight cut gears. Toad had needle bearings instead of the clutch steel bushing ( one plus ) . I would use the rat. THe early Rat iron cylinder does not have the same HP potential as the later also cooling is poor.
