Re: 1974 Super Combat Lubricants
This is like asking which beer goes best with a pepperoni pizza. Premix oil runs the gamut, just don't use the cheap hardware store stuff intended for chainsaws. Go to your local motorcycle store and peruse the shelves. You want a gear oil intended for wet clutch apps, and a two stroke oil intended for premix. Buy the best you can afford. Don't use ethanol fuel. 32:1 mix ratio is a good median ratio and serves well. I would personally not go leaner than that. Opinions vary.
Bel Ray makes good stuff. Yamalube is still a reliable premix oil. Redline makes superior product but it isn't cheap. I prefer synthetic anything to petroleum oils but that's just me, they all work fine. There are many very good products from which to choose. Find one you like and stay with it.

Bel Ray gear oil and Yamalube mixed 40:1 is what I use, and this combo for all my two stokes old and modern just to keep it simple.

I use Bell-Ray gear oil and Bel-Ray H1-R for premix at 40:1.

Bought my Super Combat brand new in 1974. Still riding the old girl. Use Bel-Ray gear oil in case, one made for wet clutch (very important). Use 15 weight Bel-Ray fork oil. Pre-mix 28 to one in gas. Once had piston ring seize in grove at 40 to one. All oils synthetic.

Hey Steve, that is awesome you still have that bike after all these years. I know a lot of us wish we still had our new Hodaka!

Have used Klotz at 40 - 50 to one in past. Had ring seize. Now use Yamalube or Formula K2 at 28 to one. Also let engine warm up good before riding. Yep, ran for congress back in the day.
