NON OEM Gas Tanks

Post by motovate »

OK - so probably another off the wall question. Has any one run across a non Hodaka gas tank - think less expensive but serviceable - that fits fairly easily on wombat hodaka frames. Here is the idea - Lee Fabry is painting a tank+ for me and just sent me a photo - it is Outstanding! :D Then I got to thinking (again) - I sure don't want to run it anywhere where I can easily crunch it. So I'm going to start looking for a inexpensive tank that fits so I can toss it on the bike and not worry when I fall over :) Ebay has a bunch of tanks but they seem to be priority priced for a less then priority tank that will take a lot of work and easily get into the $100 + range. I was wondering if anyone has seen or run maybe old DT Yamaha tanks or Honda or?? That at least fit on the front mounts and I can tie down on the back.

Any Ideas??? :?:

Thanks

Just buy a cheap, functional, used and serviceable Hodaka tank, they fit. Give the old girl some character.

Yep - probably a good idea just haven't found one yet that's servicable - most are pretty rusty inside looking @ the photos - but I guess I can do something with that. Seems counter intuitive except the new paint is going to be too nice to mess up chasing through the woods. 8-)

You put that nicely painted tank on the bike and you'll realize the rest of the bike will need an upgrade.

Already thinking that. Lee is doing engine, tank, air cleaner and headlight holders. I've got new Preston Petty Fenders, new chrome headlight & turn signals, new handlebars & levers. I'll have to get new cables and grips, sprockets and chain and probably a few other things. Afraid I'll just have to rattle can the frame and SOS pad the wheels but it will definitely look better

After all this I'll sure have to ride "defensively" 8-)

Thanks Kelly - I'm thinking it was probably the older style Husky tank. Did it mount up pretty good or was it heavily modified????

Thanks Victor - that would of worked and definitely a decent price. I did find a green one on Ebay for a road toad that looked pretty good and not much rust on the inside, price was about double but worth it so I punched the button. I then realized what it was going to cost to ship it so the total $ put me a bit over what I was wanting to pay. Good thing is I think all I'll need to do is unbolt the pretty tank and put the funky green one on to ride it in the woods.
