Green Road Toad Work!

Post by viclioce »

Got a little bit done on the green RT today after getting home from school! Mounted the rear brake switch. Screws were damned near frozen on a few days ago, so I sprayed them with PB Blaster & let them sit a few days. I also realized I had mounted the brake stay rod backwards on this one as well. But, thanks to Matt’s pictures, it’s cured here. Just need to reconnect the return spring! Damn! It got dark again! Falling back sure sucks the daylught outcof the end of a workday! :ugeek: Victor

Yeah Matt. Took some time off of the Red Toad Headlight to clear my head so I can think again. This was simple & easy! And I remember all the questions from last time so it was a 15 minute fix. But it got dark before 5:30 so I had to stop. Tomorrow, just PT in the morning and I can work on the Red Toad light testing. But I have a fitment issue with the Green Toad and the front brake light switch. Things don’t line up like they should with the switch position and the spring connection to the front brake arm where the spring attaches. But l will figure it out.
The fuel line and brass T’s arrived today so I can build the fuel line for this bike tomorrow! Who knows, maybe I can even get the wiring done and kick it over??? Would be nice to hear this one bark! :ugeek: Victor

I'm sure you'll get her squared up, Victor. Tomorrow, I'll take a look at the front end of my Toad and see if I can get a detail picture or two posted. That might help with the fitment situation.

Funny. The Red Toad switch went on just fine. Trying to compare the two. I’m hoping it’s not that I have the wrong brake hub??? :ugeek: Victor

While I was tinkering with a friend's virtually box-stock Model 99 Road Toad yesterday, I took a photo of the front brake layout. Hope it helps.

That’s what my Red Toad looks like (top pic). The Green Toad, I’m not so sure this is the correct brake hub (Lower pic). It’s almost like I need to drill out the Rivera and flip the mounting plate over and re-river back in place? Is there a difference between the front & rear brake switch? Or is this the wrong brake hub for a Toad Toad??? Or, do I need to add a mount plate to the wheel hub?

Damn, I’m forgetful! I need to screw on a mounting plate first!!! Ahh, brain! Why do you fail me so?!?!?! I’m guessing the Red Toad wheel already had the mount plate on it while the Green Toad wheel did not! :o It’s ordered now. :ugeek: Victor

Viclioce,

If your missing the little rubber cover for the brake light switch I found that Home Depot has a "bolt thread protector" that will fit and has enough room for the little rod in the switch to travel to and fro. If I recall correctly its 1/2", I put a bit of silicone to keep it on and to keep the water out too.

Oddly enough the same thing fits over the speedo drive, where the cable mounts, to keep all the crud out. If you remove your cable that is.

Just FYI.

Bev, THANKS!!! I wondered about replacements for those! I’ll head over there and get some! In what department do you find them? Bolt thread protector. Good to know!!! :ugeek: Victor

Yes Cap’n. I had to remove the one on the Red Toad to see it was missing. It’s been ordered. :ugeek: Victor

Viclioce,
I believe I found them in the hardware section, the isle with all the bolts, nuts, special fasteners and assorted implements of attachment. I had to look for a bit... and then I asked one of the staff because I was feeling like the lost village idiot. They were in one of the bin/cases that the special bits are in. The ones I found were grey and only cost me about a buck a pop, well worth it, compared to the cost of a new switch,
