Re: Happy New Year Hodaka Folk!
My recollection is that you are looking for any Hodaka that might have been sold by your grandfather who was a Hodaka dealer and owned Ditcher's Cycle Shop in Ohio. Just reminding myself.

Re: Motorcycle Brands in the 1960's and 1970's
I don't think Massimo was around in the 60's and 70's, but I'm not sure. Couldn't find any evidence of it. The Massimo company that makes mini bikes today is much younger than that. Thanks for the idea though. The list now is up to 212 largely due to the suggestions from this group. I started adding...

Some other mini bikes that I missed are Arctic Cat, Coleman, and Tote Gote.

Re: Motorcycle Brands in the 1960's and 1970's
Here is the new updated list based on everyone's suggestions. At some point I may add start and end dates for all the brands that I can find that info for. Motorcycle Brands in the 1960’s and 1970’s 1 Aermacchi 2 Agrati 3 Alron 4 Allstate 5 Alouette 6 American Eagle 7 Ancillotti 8 AJS 9 AMP 10 April...

Re: Motorcycle Brands in the 1960's and 1970's
It looks like Meguro was a stand alone company until sometime in 1960 when it merged with Kawasaki. So indeed it qualifies.

Re: Motorcycle Brands in the 1960's and 1970's
I remember the Moto Skeeter too. After reading an article in the new VMX Magazine I added two British trials bikes from the 70's also, Frasier and Scorpion. This brings the list up to 175... Ed is correct that many of these were either gone or not yet available in the year 1970, but I tried to resea...

Re: Motorcycle Brands in the 1960's and 1970's
What fun! I've been adding to this list from time to time but had really slowed down until now. With the assumption that all these additions are correct, the list is up to 172 at this point! I'll post it again later.

Re: Motorcycle Brands in the 1960's and 1970's
And just to be clear, on my list several of the brands that were available in the early 60's were gone by 1970 and there were several more that started after 1970. I believe the number of companies in 1970 might be closer to the 100 count that you mentioned.

Re: Motorcycle Brands in the 1960's and 1970's
Clarence, When I figure out a good way to get my list on this forum I'll attach it so you can see and remember. It's kind of fun. Frame making companies like Rickman are listed because they did sell complete motorcycles. To answer Ed's question on the other thread, I would venture to guess that near...

Motorcycle Brands in the 1960's and 1970's
I have been compiling a list of Motorcycle brands in the 1960's and 1970's and have 140 on the list. It's based primarily on dealership based ads in old motorcycle magazines. Some of them are rebranding of the same motorcycles in different countries, such as Puch and Alstate, or Sprite and American ...

Re: Webco head repair
I had a bunch of DG modifications (including a head) on my CR125 back in the early to mid 70s. I know, I know, it's not a Hodaka,... and it may not have made any difference in performance... but it made me feel faster!

Re: Webco head repair
It seems like we are discussing three different things. There seems to be some consensus of anecdotal evidence of a "seat of the pants" performance enhancement from the Webco head over stock. What is more difficult to assess is whether there is difference in cooling effectivity. The "...

You are describing classic lean symptoms. Hopefully it's just a clogged pilot jet, but it could be anything that introduces more air or less fuel.
