50 years ago . . .

I thought folks might be interested in a feature from one of the local newspapers which reprints excerpts from articles published in the days of yore.

Re: Side stand length

I just threw a tape measure up against the only bikes I have around here which have stock kick stands. Both the model 96 Dirt Squirt and Model 99 Road Toad have about 11 inch kick stands. My ISDT Qualifier bike with 21" and 18" wheels AND Model 03 forks and 14.5" shocks is somewhat ta...

Re: Hodaka Q&A

I'm not sure when I first read about the concept of turning a, say, 500cc twin, into a 500cc "thumper" by changing the crank to move both pistons up in unison and fire them at the same time . . . but the concept apparently burned into my brain. BUT, back to the original question . . . firs...

Depends on whether it is a "twingle" or not.

Nah. I just can't NOT do it. (other folks may get some value from the thread and my "tried and true" comment.)

Slow down. You'll go faster. ;)

PS: How do you think I learned about slowing down to go faster???

Re: Damn Damn Damn!!!

Of course. We all worry about that. But by definition, if the piston pin won't slide in with a thumb push, you haven't gone enough - and enough is still shy of too far.

So you just keep "sneaking up" on the proper fit till you get there.

If you didn't achieve a thumb press fit, then you didn't complete the job.

Re: Damn Damn Damn!!!

Victor, Several "twenty-twenty hindsight" solutions to the situation have been offered, and I'm sure you've come up those and others. But here is one which hasn't been listed yet - - confirm the wrist pin fit in the piston (adjust as necessary, thumb push fit when piston and pin are at roo...

Albert, I THINK (<---- that is a BIG "I think") that Clarence is giving us some clues in the next Trivia Question. My memory cells are revving at full throttle . . . but only smoke is coming out right now.

Re: Clutch Renewal Instructional Materials

Matt has very good point there. I got tunnel vision on your question about filing - and totally forgot to mention that the very FIRST thing you should do is check for free play at the end of the clutch lever on the engine with the clutch cable disconnected. Target is 3/32". If you have way more...

If you are a member of the Hodaka Club, you can go to the archive of the club newsletter ("Resonator Revisited) and look up the article on blue printing the clutch. The article should answer your questions.

Re: ‘71 B+ resurrection……First post newbie!!

While you may indeed need stiffer shocks to handle your particular traction enhancements by way of strong attraction to the center of the earth - longer shocks are almost certainly not a good idea. They will "jack up" the rear end of the machine . . . and that will change the front end geo...

. . . and if you were there, and I could identify your rider number, I could check to see if I have access to a photo with you in it (on that bike, at that time) . . . nifty!

1973 Bad Rock ISDT Qualifier event

Does anyone have a copy of the entry list for the 1973 Bad Rock ISDT Qualifier event? I have a copy of the final results, but not the entry list. I'm hoping to come up with information which would help identify riders in photographs taken during the event. Currently I can only identify riders who fi...

Re: Hodaka Q&A

I thought the question was what was the last "supplement" to the Official Workshop Manual? The manual for the Model 94/95 was not a "supplement" - it was a "stand - alone" Official Workshop Manual. The ol' guy who put it together tells me that the Manual did continue an...

Dirt Squirt Owner's Handbooks came with the bike - but there is no supplement to the Official Hodaka Workshop Manual for the Dirt Squirt.

I most assuredly don't know the answer to that. But if I were to hazard a guess, it would be Wilt Chamberlain executing with all the power he could muster against the great Bill Russell.

Re: 1968 Model 92 Ace 100 Wiring / Lighting Help

Test your Selenium Rectifier - you'll need the Workshop Manual for that. Also, (and this MAY be all you need to do) - make sure the Selenium Rectifier is mounted "square" - not twisted. The corners of the plate must NOT touch anything.

Re: 1968 Model 92 Ace 100 Wiring / Lighting Help

Dagnabit! The white haired old dude who hangs around here a lot apparently put my copy of the Official Hodaka Workshop Manual in a safe place - safe because it could not be found! I've been searching for a week . . . and I gave the search one more try just a few minutes ago. Eureka! I found it! Ennn...

Go to the very bottom of the list - that is the most recent issue. The article starts on page 19.
