Re: NON OEM Gas Tanks
Already thinking that. Lee is doing engine, tank, air cleaner and headlight holders. I've got new Preston Petty Fenders, new chrome headlight & turn signals, new handlebars & levers. I'll have to get new cables and grips, sprockets and chain and probably a few other things. Afraid I'll just ...

Re: NON OEM Gas Tanks
Yep - probably a good idea just haven't found one yet that's servicable - most are pretty rusty inside looking @ the photos - but I guess I can do something with that. Seems counter intuitive except the new paint is going to be too nice to mess up chasing through the woods.

Re: Offroad boots
They are built to protect your feet and the more you wear them the more you get used to them but they will never be walking boots. I was real glad I had a set on when trail riding down a hill quicker then I should of and hit a rock so hard it almost unseated me with my foot. Even with the good boots...

NON OEM Gas Tanks
OK - so probably another off the wall question. Has any one run across a non Hodaka gas tank - think less expensive but serviceable - that fits fairly easily on wombat hodaka frames. Here is the idea - Lee Fabry is painting a tank+ for me and just sent me a photo - it is Outstanding! :D Then I got t...

Re: Stock exhaust vs expansion chambers
An earlier reply from rlkarren about model 94 pipes and part of the answer was the header pipe wouldn't hook up because it was too big around and fit to the wombats larger ports. I'm wondering how the larger 125cc expansion chamber would work with the 100cc models if the header was modified to the c...

That's pretty cool. More Hodaka History we really didn't know about. Interesting how things come about.

Re: Stock exhaust vs expansion chambers
OK - Thanks. Still trying to understand a little bit more. Is this because there isn't much of a stinger lengthening effect with a silencer because once the exhaust pulse exits the stinger and expands into the sliencer the power is already made?? And the back pressure of he spark arrestor screen isn...

Re: Stock exhaust vs expansion chambers
Thanks ED - this is what I was looking for. I just had a thought that if I couldn't find a 93B pipe with the spark arrestor/silencer already on it and I found a 93 pipe with just a stinger on it - that hanging a silencer off the end would be ungainly and have some effect on stinger length - making i...

Re: Stock exhaust vs expansion chambers
Thanks Ed, Got it - find a model 93B pipe in good shape that still has the spark arrestor baffle in it or a model 93 pipe and get a good after market silencer/spark arrestor and mount it on the 93 pipe. One last question(?) I suspect adding an after market silencer/arrestor to the end of the model 9...

Re: Stock exhaust vs expansion chambers
OK - I had to go back to the schematics to figure it out. I had a Super Rat in the early 70's which had a high right pipe. I didn't know the numerical designation at that time - it was just a Super Rat. It was the 93B model since it had a spark arrestor and silencer and I did end up running it on th...

Re: Stock exhaust vs expansion chambers
Thanks ED appreciate the info. I didn't remember or possibly even realize it was the Combat Wombat pipe that was the "good" one and the others were just good "serviceable pipes. Reading into that a stock 100cc Super Rat pipe practically speaking probably isn't much different then a st...

Stock exhaust vs expansion chambers
OK not necessarily a new topic. I know this has been hashed over a lot - I just can only remember so much. What I remember was a discussion about how good the Hodaka stock pipes were vs aftermarket pipes or something like that anyway. I also remember - I think it was Capt Ed saying that Harry Taylor...

Re: Off Topic - sort of-
Thanks to everyone for the good info. Pilot jet could be plugged but once it warmed up and I took it off the choke it seemed to run OK - just took a lot longer to warm up then the Hodie Dirt squirt I also was running at the same time moving them around. Hodie was able to warm up quicker - or seemed ...

I have a question about reeded bikes in general. If the reeds are broken or only partially there would that affect the bike during warm up? I have a Yamaha DT 175 - which is reed ported. It will start OK using the choke and you can ride it around with the choke on while warming up and seems to run O...

Re: New Brit in the mix
Good Looking Rickman - any price yet?? By the way following along in the Thread one of the first bikes I ever had was a 1964 Triumph Cub. I bought it in 1967. It had a really cool Gas Tank painted Dark Purple with White Flames and a hand made Aluminum racing seat - one of the first things built by a...

Very good info Ed - especially on the carb vanes. I had heard/read a few times about people having vaned carbs and how good it was but never why it was good. You cleared up a mystery for me on that one!

Re: My 03 Wombat lives!!..well maybe soon.
Thanks. Good points. Again just curious what are the dual stage reeds made out of? Last I thought too much about reeds they were steel and the trick thing to do was replace them with plastic or maybe it was fiberglass - the idea being if the steel broke it lunched the engine and the others wouldn't?...

Danny - why do you think the difference in reeds - carbon vs steel/plastic?? Dual Stage made a difference in 4 stroking??? Just curious.
