Re: Chain guard rubs!!!
Absolutely! I shake my head when I see a Hodaka on EBAY for sale that`s what I call a Frankenstein. A Gas tank from one model, a Fender from another and so on. A Wheel from this and a Throttle from that! A Restoration? No. Pieced together BUT Pretty! Joe.

Re: Chain guard rubs!!!
More fun! I bought a 73 Dirt Squirt that had a 71 Super Rat Cushion Hub and a Kawasaki sprocket collar. It took 3 spacer changes and a Cushion Hub to correct it. It looks like it may be more than just one wrong part. Bummer! Joe.

One more thing: If you take it to a Machine Shop, bring a new bolt. They may need to Heli Coil the hole once they get out the broken Tap.They need the bolt to install the correct Heli Coil. Joe.

Re: Carb cleaning tools!
I have a set of those. They break too! Try this: Get a Dremel with a cut off wheel and grind a slot in the tap. A flat screwdriver can then be used to turn it out. It would be easier with a bare frame. Every situation is different. A Machine Shop may be your best bet. Joe.

I was just being silly! That`s all. You can never have too many tools. You would be surprised at just how many people don`t know that a Micrometer is NOT a C Clamp! I`ve seen that one. That`s why I don`t lend mine out any more! Joe.

Re: 22 mm Mikuni float height
One question we all missed is: Has the Engine been Reed Valved ? Reed petals are far too often overlooked when troubleshooting an Engine problem. They only last so long. They loose their tension, arch, twist and Burn up. They can also glue themselves down. That happened to me when my Super Rat sat f...

Re: 22 mm Mikuni float height
We can pretty well eliminate the fuel system. So , let`s get to the Ignition System. Spark plug first. Just because it`s new doesn`t make it good. The Cap. The Factory Cap Part#933002 is TROUBLE! One thing that I did that caused my Super Rat to have your problem was this: Anti Seize. I put too much ...

Re: 22 mm Mikuni float height
Is the carb new or used ? First things first: pull the fuel line off the carburetor and check for fuel flow. If it`s OK, tear down the carburetor and give it a good cleaning. Be sure to remove the fuel inlet nipple with the Needle and Seat assembly removed and blow it out in both directions with Car...

Re: Gas Tank Cleaning Question???
Basically you just pour it in the Tank and let is soak. Will it stain Chrome? Possibly. Only soak The solid Cast iron Cylinders. Just pour a Quart in the Tank and let it work for a couple of hours. Then rinse it out with water and see what it did. WEAR GLOVES ! This stuff will attack Aluminum! Read t...

Re: Gas Tank Cleaning Question???
The Auto Zone sells PURPLE POWER Industrial cleaner. A Gallon costs $6.99 + Tax. The Diesel Pickups need the EGR Valve and EGR Cooler cleaned every so many Miles. That stuff breaks down baked on soot and carbon really well. Use it undiluted. Be careful on Aluminum parts! Eats it ! Joe.

Re: Standard ace 100 rings
The Ultra Critical thing is that the Piston ring Match the Cut out for the (Ring Pin). I call it the Anti- Rotate Pin. The +.020 Ring I bought from the guy in Greece on EBAY is 100% correct. If it had a Black Oxide coating you would swear it was a NPR. I paid $6.60 + $3.30 Shipping. Each additional ...

Re: Just a fun poll here
Before I reed valved my Super Rat back in the day it loaded up way too often. It didn`t load up until it was ported. I bought a long Filtron sock and chopped off the closed end and glued it to the Air Box. The carb end was clamped on. I had this setup for a short time before I Reed Valved the Engine...

Re: Just a fun poll here
Turn the gas off. Lay the bike on it`s side to drain the carb . Full throttle and kick. If you have a Piston Port engine that loads up more than once in a Blue moon something is wrong. Quite often the Porting has been altered and the only way to cure the Loading Up problem is to Reed valve the Engin...

Re: Combat running amazing...then not.
I doubt if you have that HORRIBLE Spark Plug Cap #933002 but if you do get rid of it! I had the same problem . When I pulled the cap and put it back on the spark returned. Just the twisting on the cap and it would re- connect. Horrible! Joe
