Re: Front or Back, I Asked.

"Why?" Only a thought experiment, an entertaining puzzle. Nothing new in the world of two-strokes but someone did ask. We got some mileage on our thought processes, also fun! As Victor said about his brain rolling around in his head. Me too. I think I'll file this under "Not practical...

Re: Front or Back, I Asked.

Victor. Looking on the internet for something to show how you could reverse a Hodaka cylinder and ran across this engine that has it both ways. Probably would be be a cooling problem on air cooled cylinders but interesting none the less. check out this Honda NSR500 with carbs in front. These are so ...

Front or Back, I Asked.

Hmmm. Strange happenings on Facebook but nothing unusual for the game. Troll infection partially. Subject control another factor. Should be about motorcycles for sure but does need a social factor. Think I just had my work removed from one of my favorite pages about carbs having to be on the front o...

Fresh Air and Change of View

Begone Winter. No doubt about it. Chrome and red Hodakas look good in their Native Habitat namely the Good Woods. The Super Brat project hasn’t seen the light of day this century and I took him for a short walk this morning so he could start remembering his mission, having a good time together. Almo...

Re: Day One - New Project

DSCN2519.JPG Good and simple presentation Ed. Thanks! I can vouch for the original design not working and it is no longer with us. Looks like I'm on the right track with my 22" header and this 9 1/2 ish Bultaco muffler with its 7/8' ish exit. I think I''ll proceed at this point and see what th...

Re: Day One - New Project

Eternal project. Back to here with the muffler idea sawed off and scrapped. Trials plumbing, all a vague mystery that I’m trying decipher from pictures and opinions. All seem to have a long header pipe. Did that, about 22 inches. Many trial type bikes use this Bultaco muffler. Bought one. Almost all...

Re: Day One - New Project

Hey Matt. All started with Harry Taylor's "how to build a trials bike" or something like that. Long header pipe recommended. I decided to lengthen with a curly header pipe and went from there. I tried routing this through a 93A Wombat pipe body. Heavy, no low-end. Set it aside for a long w...

Re: Day One - New Project

Probably should start a new subject on this old project from years back but this will bring it to the present one more time. Updates with new ideas particularly in my exhaust thinking. Always gathering parts and I may just put a stock Ace 100 engine back in for plunking around and playing with this ...

Unfinished Matt. 1 X 1 X 1/8 inch aluminum angle will replace the punched metal angle. The countersunk, from the backside fasteners, holding all together. Maxie

Re: #3 Hodaka Project

Report. Light Hodaka duty to entertain me. Broken rib seems to be stuck together but no heavy lifting, I can laugh now without pain, ha ha. This is good, almost normal for me. Almost done on this chainguard, aluminum 1x1 angle and countersunk fasteners on the way. Some fiddling required getting all ...

Re: #3 Hodaka Project

Light Hodaka duty. I can lift this aluminum plate and Eweleen has rolled the #3 Hodaka closer to the drill press. I can now make shavings and maybe a chain guard. Much better than TV at this point in history. This rib thing only hurts when I laugh. For us do-it-yourself guys, probably more than you ...

So, Max… What’s this pipe thing you hurt yourself with??? A broken rib is no fun. I heard the rib break clea...

Re: #3 Hodaka Project

Another mock-up after expert advice. Much better but not final. Good thing about mock-ups is you can look at them a few days before I cut the aluminum plate and angle. Looks better and simpler, fits better. Holes are fake so I can move them around. Like the way the holes fit in with the rear sprocke...

Re: #3 Hodaka Project

Good advice from a couple of guys I really respect, Dale and Ed. Couple of chain accidents I viewed in life made me a bit leery of chains. One was a powder puff race for women, one with no boots, ankle fed into lower rear sprocket, bad. Second one was me, tuning a racer in tennis shoes. No injuries ...

Re: #3 Hodaka Project

Don't want to streamline a head so the air goes around it. Most holes to the front. Scoop all you can in, at least if you are going forward. Clarence is plenty clever and I thought he might be pulling my leg as he sometimes does or worse might be right. Worried me enough to look up some old advertis...

Re: #3 Hodaka Project

My home-made chain guard you keep seeing looks, well, home made. Keeps me out of the chain though. Does wipe the tire but the back is open and I’ve done the mud thing enough times in life. This lengthened swing arm brace does add an attachment point and maybe I can get the mount down to one piece ra...

Re: #3 Hodaka Project

#3 is, well, third in line for restoration. Handy for a jig for trying things for the #1 project, also an Ace 100 B+. Last of the Aces but still just a bit short. Did fit a model 94 Wombat swing arm and with some effort, the conversion works really well, being longer and wider in the right places. W...
